Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

T: – Good-morning dear friends. Today we are going to have a talk about the problem of environment protection.

2. Фонетическая зарядка.

The topic of our lesson is “Safe the Earth!” Let’s remember the words on this topic.

3. Речевая зарядка:

T: – We are really one with nature, our planet and the Universe being connected with them by every cell of our being.

The wonderful feeling of being one with nature was always typical also for Russian people in old times. Every Russian village family had the images of nature everywhere in the house – the flowers on the cups, bed covers and clothes, the leaves on the towels.

The feeling of being one with the world is very ancient. It is expressed in many old books, myths and poems of different countries. What poems about nature do you remember? (Приложение 1)

4. Монологическая речь.

Unfortunately, our technical civilization is thinking only of material goods succeeded in destroying Nature and creating the ecological crisis on our planet. What does the word “ecology” mean? What are the names of the environmental problems of today?

T: The problems of ecology are very important now. Which problem is the most urgent, in your opinion? Look at the pictures and comment on them. Say what ecological problems are matters of people’s concern nowadays.

P1 Acid rain. When we look up, we see the clouds and the blue sky. But there are other things in the sky that we don’t see. Some of these are harmful to the Earth.

When power plants burn coal to make electricity, and when cars burn gasoline, in visible gases are released into the air. Some of these gases can mix with water and make it acidic, like lemon juice or vinegar.

Sometimes the gases get into rain clouds, where they get mixed in with rain or snow. Then the acid falls back to earth with the rain or snow. This is called acid rain.

Acid rain is extremely harmful to plants, rivers and lakes, and the creatures that live in them. In some places it is killing forests. And it pollutes the water that animals and people need to drink.

It’s very important for us to stop making acid rain. One good way to do that is to drive our cars less. Another good way is to save energy. The less energy we use, the less coal those power plants will have to burn.

P2 – Air pollution. Until about 150 years ago, the air was pure and clean – perfect for the people and animals of the earth to breathe.

Then people started building factories and many of the things they make, like cars, put a lot of harmful gases into the air. Then people started driving cars, which added more pollution to the air.

Today the air is so polluted in some places that it’s not always safe to breathe!

Many cities around the world have air filled with a pollution called “smog”. This is so strong in some places that the air, which should be a beautiful blue, actually looks brown.

Polluted air is not only bad for people and animals, but for trees and other plants, as well. And in some places it’s even damaging farmers’ crops – the food we eat. So it’s very important for us to “clean up our act”, and clean up the air we all breathe.

Everyone can help keep our air clean and safe. It’s even fun! You can plant a tree, ride your bike, and even write a letter to a newspaper.

P3 – Disappearing animals. Every day, there are more and more people living on Earth. All these people need room to live. So they move into places that are already homes for plants and animals. Forests are cut down, and wild areas are filled with houses and stories.

When people move into new land, the plants and animals that live there can become endangered – which means that because there’s no plays for them to live, they begin to disappear. Some even become extinct – which means that they all die out, and are gone from the Earth forever.

We enjoy pictures and stories about the dinosaurs who lived on the earth many millions of years ago. They’re all extinct now. That could happen to elephant, zebras, redwood trees, frogs, butterflies, robins, or goldfish… or other animals, if we’re not careful.

Let’s keep the Earth green and healthy and full of millions of wonderful creatures!

5. Аудирование.

Now I want you to listen to a song “What Have they Done to the World?” and answer some questions on it. Could it be called a “protest” song? What lines of the song show harmful effects of civilization on nature?

T: – This is to give you practice in listening to for the specific details. And you don’t need to understand every word. Don’t worry. (Приложение 2)

T: – There are a lot of environmental problems. But there are a lot of environmental groups and organizations. Do you know any environmental organisations? What environmental organizations do you know?

P1– Greenpeace

6. Чтение.

T: – All right. So you know a bit about it. Right now, I want you to do some reading. Open your books on page 122, ex. III.

So the task is “What organization is this text about?

P1 – World Wildlife Fund

T: – What is the aim of the World Wildlife Fund?

T: – Where does the World Wildlife Fund get its money from?

T: – As you know there are environmental groups and organizations which are trying to help nature.

T: – And what can you and the people around you do to protect the planet.

T: – I think that the poetry and music play important role in our life. Do you agree with me. Can we use them to protect nature. Let’s remember the poems and song about protecting nature.

7. Подведение итогов:

T: – Our lesson is over. But I’m sure that you’re real friends of our planet.
