1: One of the most important problems of all times is a generation gap. It has been known since Turgenev’s time. In his novel called “Fathers and sons” he came to the conclusion that this problem really existed. Nowadays we face it too. Adults’ mentality is different from that of teenagers.
A new Russian generation is more outgoing and independent.
The theme of our lesson is “Family conflicts. What is the way out?” We’ll discuss this problem and try to find the way out.
We’ll try to build a bridge from the problem to its discussion and solution. I wish you good luck. Let’s start our work.
- You have lists of words before you. Look through them and answer the questions: what problem is it?
- What is the main aspect of it?
- What are the reasons?
Teacher 1: The main problem is a family conflict. I quite agree with you, the main reason is misunderstanding. Do you have such problems in your families?
Teacher 1: We continue to answer the questions of the theme and build our bridge. How does it reveal? What should be done not to have a family crash?
Teacher1: So, we have built our bridge for further discussion of the problem.
Solving the problem we should follow two conditions:
- to prevent family conflict;
- to avoid misunderstanding.
Teacher 2: O.K., my dear kids! I’m very glad that you have no serious problems in your families. But still, the problem of family conflicts exists and makes unhappy a lot of teens throughout the world. Some of them get upset or depressed when they can’t solve their problems. Look at the photo. What can you tell us about this girl?
P1: The girl is pretty.
P2: She is of my age.
P3: No, she looks younger! She may be 14.
P4: The girl is sad. She can have some problems, I think.
Teacher 2: That is! Why do you think she is unhappy?
P1: She might have quarreled with her boy-friend.
P2: She may have had a conflict at school.
P3: She probably…
Teacher 2: O.K. In fact, the girl’s name is Sasha. She lives with her mum, dad, an elder brother, a younger one and a sister. She doesn’t get on well with any of her family and plans to leave home as soon as she is old enough… She has written a letter to the youth magazine “Shout”.
(Pupils work inside the groups; they read the text of ex.2b, p.75. Student’s book “New Millennium English – 10” (автор О.Л. Гроза) and fill in their “Fishbone” schemes)
Teacher 2: The girl has a conflict with her sister, hasn’t she?
- What is the reason of the conflict?
- What facts can you give to prove it?
- – The conflict develops further. What is the other reason? Can you give any facts?
- The girl is treated like an unpaid slave, isn’t she?
- Do her parents trust her? Give some facts from the text, please! Etc..
(Then children present their schemes and make the proper schemes on the blackboard)
Teacher 2: What can such relations lead to? Yes. That’s right! They can lead to a family crash…
Teacher 3: Well, children, as far as you can understand, the girl Sasha has a real problem in her family. It seems to her, that nothing good can be done to change the situation. Everything around her is unpleasant, makes her feel unhappy, lonely, nervous.
– Where is the way out?
The way must be found, because a family conflict leads to a family crash.
Now students, imagine that you are doctors of psychology. Try to say, what kinds of relations must be in the family?
Teacher 3: Jorge Bernard Show said:“ A family is a place, where people learn laws of life” – translate this phrase, please.
Now I want you explain this phrase in writing form, using your lists of daybooks.

Teacher 3: Good, my dear friends, But you know that all relations are a hard work. To receive smth, people should put something into it.
How do you think, what should be done or shouldn’t be done for good family relations?
Make up your opinions, please.
Let us be wise and reasonable people!
Each group must make up your own rules for keeping good family relations.
Teacher 3: Well, nice of you and as a result of our work I suggest you to make a “ СИНКВЕЙН”, a rhyme about the topic “a family conflict”
Take these envelopes and try to make up your rhyme on the topic “The family conflict” from these giving words. Read the instruction how to write such kinds of rhymes.
We teachers hope, that you will be good parents in your future and you’ll grow your own children in love, tolerance and understanding.
