Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Teacher: Good afternoon, children! Today we are celebrating Christmas at our lyceum. We will listen to and sing carols, read poems popular in Great Britain and in the USA. But who is the main personage at Christmas, it’s Santa! Now our two little pigs will tell you about him.

Yellow and pink pigs: Santa Claus originated from Saint Nickolas who was born on the territory of modern Turkey. Once he threw gold coins into the chimney of the house where three poor sisters lived. The coins dropped into the stockings hanging by the fire-place. And since then people hang stockings and wait for presents from Santa. And now Santa’s elves are telling us some poems.

Santa’s Elves:

Christmas presents by Carolyn Wells

Ten Christmas presents standing in a line;
Robert took the bicycle, then there were nine.

Nine Christmas presents ranged in order straight;
Bob took the steam engine, then there were eight.

Eight Christmas presents--and one came from Devon;
Robbie took the jackknife, then there were seven.

Seven Christmas presents direct from St.  Nick's;
Bobby took the candy box, then there were six.

Six Christmas presents, one of them alive;
Rob took the puppy dog, then there were five.

Five Christmas presents yet on the floor;
Bobbin took the soldier cap, then there were four.

Four Christmas presents underneath the tree;
Bobbet took the writing desk, then there were three.

Three Christmas presents still in full view;
Robin took the checker board, then there were two.

Two Christmas presents, promising fun,
Bobbles took the picture book, then there was one.

One Christmas present--and now the list is done;
Bobbinet took the sled, and then there were none.

And the same happy child received every toy,
So many nicknames had one little boy.

A Jolly Little Elf

Oh, I wish I was a jolly little elf.
Oh, I wish I was a jolly little elf.
I'd help Santa make the toys
To give all the girls and boys.
Oh, I wish I was a jolly little elf.

Oh, I wish I was an angel on the tree.
Oh, I wish I was an angel on the tree.
I'd give every girl and boy
Lots of Christmas peace and joy.
Oh, I wish I was an angel on the tree.

When Santa Claus Comes

A good time is coming, I wish it were here,
The very best time in the whole of the year;
I’m counting each day on my fingers and thumbs,
the weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes.

Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down,
And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown,
I’ll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs,
For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.

Snowman: I’m also a Santa’s friend! Let’s sing “Here comes Santa Claus” all together!
Звучит мелодия рождественского гимна «Вот идёт Санта Клаус», все участники поют.

«Here comes Santa Claus»

Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
Are pulling on the reins.
Bells are ringing, children singing;
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say your prayers,
Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.
Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right Down Santa Claus Lane!
He’s got a bag that is filled with toys
For the boys and girls again.
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
What a beautiful sight.
Jump in bed, cover up your head,
Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.
Входит Санта Клаус.

Santa Claus:

HO-HO-HO, my dear friends!
It is hard to think of anything
But Christmas in December
There is so much to look forward to
And so much to remember!

Santa Claus: I’m so glad to celebrate Christmas with you! My little friend Snowman wants to tell you a poem.

Snowman: Once There Was a Snowman

Once there was a snowman,
Who stood outside the door,
He wished that he could come inside,
And run about the floor.
He wished that he could warm himself,
Beside the fire, so red,
He wished that he could climb
Upon the big white bed.

So he called to the North Wind,
“Come and help me, pray,
For I’m completely frozen,
Standing here all day.”
So the North Wind came along,
And blew him in the door,
And now there nothing left,
But a puddle on the floor!

Santa Claus: Thank you, Snowman! Now my little snowflakes also want to tell you some poems.

Snowflakes:

At Christmas Time

At Christmas time, we deck the hall
With holly branches brave and tall,
With sturdy pine and hemlock bright
And in the Yule log’s dancing light
We tell old tales of field and fight
At Christmas time.
At Christmas time we pile the board
With flesh and fruit and vintage stored,
And mid the laughter and the glow
We tread a measure soft and slow,
And kiss beneath the mistletoe
At Christmas time.

Ever Green

Each house is swept the day before,
And windows stuck with evergreens,

The snow is besom'd from the door,
And comfort crowns the cottage scenes.

Gilt holly, with its thorny pricks
And yew and box, with berries small,

These deck the unused candlesticks,
And pictures hanging by the wall.

Five little bells

Five little bells, hanging in a row.
The first one said, ring me slow.
The second one said, ring me fast.
The third one said, ring me last.
The fourth one said, I'm like a chime.
The fifth one said, ring us all at one time!

The Present

There's a present under the Christmas tree,
And I'm excited to see it's addressed to me.
I imagine all the great things it might be,
But I have to wait until Christmas morning to see.

The Day Before Christmas

We have been helping with the cake,
And licking out the pan,
And wrapping up our packages,
As neatly as we can.
We have hung our stockings up,
Beside the open grate.
And now there’s nothing more to do,
Except
To
Wait.

Pink and Yellow pigs: Santa Claus is always moving in the sleigh, pulled by eight northern deers: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder, Blixem. But the most famous and favourite deer is Rudolf. Now deers, welcome, sing us the song about Rudolf!

Deers:

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
"Rudolph, with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
You'll go down in history"
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
"Rudolph, with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
You'll go down in history"

Pink and Yellow pigs: A Christmas tree is a symbol of Christmas and New Year. People like to decorate a Christmas tree! Americans sing carols “Deck the Halls” while decorating their houses.

“Deck the halls”

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa lalalala, lalalala
‘Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
See the blazing Yule before us,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Follow me in merry measure,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
While I tell of Yuletide treasure,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Fast away the old year passes,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa lalalala, lalalala.

Pink and yellow pigs: People in the USA celebrate four main holidays in December: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year. Christmas is the most popular American holiday. Americans began celebrating Christmas only in the middle of the 19th century. It was forbidden to celebrate Christmas in Massachusets state for a long time, because puritans didn`t like merry celebrations and good food during the holiday. Let’s sing the most popular carol about Christmas tree:

O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Thy leaves are so unchanging
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Thy leaves are so unchanging
Not only green when summer's here
But also when it's cold and drear
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Thy leaves are so unchanging

O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Such pleasure do you bring me
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Such pleasure do you bring me
For every year this Christmas tree
Brings to us such joy and glee
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
Such pleasure do you bring me

O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
You'll ever be unchanging
A symbol of goodwill and love
You'll ever be unchanging
Each shining light, each silver bell
No one alive spreads cheer so well
O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree
You'll ever be unchanging

O Christmas Tree, o Christmas Tree
How steadfast are your branches!
Your boughs are green in summer's clime
And through the snows of wintertime
O Christmas Tree, o Christmas Tree
How steadfast are your branches!

O Christmas Tree, o Christmas Tree
What happiness befalls me
When oft at joyous Christmas-time
Your form inspires my song and rhyme
O Christmas Tree, o Christmas Tree
What happiness befalls me

O Christmas Tree, o Christmas Tree
Your boughs can teach a lesson
That constant faith and hope sublime
Lend strength and comfort through all time
O Christmas Tree, o Christmas Tree
Your boughs can teach a lesson.

В кабинет входят девочки в костюмах ёлок и читают стихи о Рождественской ели.

Five Christmas tree poems:

“The pine tree”

Outside there`s a pine tree standing
Straight and tall.
It needs no decorations –
Nature`s done it all.
Pinecones on its branches
With icicles glistening bright,
Snow upon its needles
And birds at rest from flight.
I see it from my window
And take the time to say,
Thank you for your beauty, tree,
On the Christmas day.

“A secret”

Do you know why the pine trees
Stand so straight and tall?
How do they keep their branches
Stiff and straight
And never stoop at all?
It really is a secret,
Which the North wind told to me –
That every pine tree hopes some day,
To be a Christmas tree!

“Christmas Eve”

On window panes, the icy frost
Leaves feathered patters, crissed and crossed,
But in our house the Christmas tree
Is decorated festively
With tiny dots of colored light
That cozy up this winter night.
Christmas songs, familiar, slow,
Play softly on the radio,
Pops and hisses from the fire
Whistle with the bells and choir.
Tomorrow`s what I`m waiting for,
But I can wait a little more.

“Christmas tree”

I know so many secrets
Such secrets full of fun,
But if you hear my secrets,
Please don`t tell anyone.
Here are some lights that twinkle,
Here is an ornament.
Here is a big great present
From Grandpa it was sent.
And on the very tip-tip top,
A bright star you can see,
What is the secret? Can`t you tell?
Why, it`s a Christmas tree!

“A story”

Ho-ho-ho, snow-snow-snow.
What can I do?
My Christmas tree won`t grow.
I`ve sang it a carol.
I`ve sang it a song.
I`ve fed it mince pies,
Where`ve I gone wrong?
So I ran it a bath
With herbs and salts.
Idipped it in,
I prayed and hoped.
I waited and waited.
Then I pulled it out.
I measured it once.
I measured it twice.
I measured it again.
Oh, dear!
It was just as short.
It was just the same!

Santa Claus: Ho-Ho-Ho, my dear friends! I’m so happy to listen to my favourite songs, carols and poems. It’s a Poetic Christmas! Thank you so much! I want to give you some little presents. And let’s sing one more carol.

“Holly Jolly Christmas”

Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
It’s the best time of the year.
I don’t know if there’ll be snow,
But have a cup of cheer.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas,
And when you walk down the street,
Say hello to friends you know
And everyone you meet.
Oh, ho, the mistletoe,
Hung where you can see.
Somebody waits for you;
Kiss her once for me.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas,
And in case you didn’t hear,
Oh by golly, have a holly,
Jolly Christmas this year!

Праздник заканчивается, всем зрителям и участникам раздают сладости из большого рождественского чулка.
