Is it important for your future career?" ("Сколько иностранных языков вы хотели бы изучать? Один или несколько? Важно ли это в вашей будущей профессии?")

2. After the discussion every group should give their arguments for the second language or several languages and their arguments for one language only.

The first group: we are for French

French: The name "France" comes from the Latin Francia, which means "country of the Franks".

France, officially the French Republic is a state in Western Europe and several overseas regions and territories. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean; due to its shape, it is often referred to in French as l'Hexagone("The Hexagon"). France is one of only three countries (with Morocco and Spain) to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines.

France is the wealthiest nation in Europe and fourth in the world.

French citizens enjoy a high standard of living, and the country performs well in international rankings of education, health care, life expectancy, civil liberties, and human development.

Tourism

With 83 million foreign tourists in 2012, France is ranked as the first tourist destination in the world.

France, especially Paris, has some of the world's largest and renowned museums, including the Louvre, which is the most visited art museum in the world.

Art

The origins of French art were very much influenced by Flemish art and by Italian art at the time of the Renaissance. Jean Fouquet, the most famous medieval French painter, is said to have been the first to travel to Italy and experience the Early Renaissance at first hand. The Renaissance painting School of Fontainebleau was directly inspired by Italian painter. Two of the most famous French artists of the time of Baroque era, Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain, lived in Italy.

Music

France has a long and varied musical history. It had a golden age in the 17th century thanks to Louis XIV, who employed several musicians and composers in the royal court.

French classical music knew a revival in the 19th and 20th century, at the end of the romantic movement. Later came precursors of modern classical music Érik Satie, Francis Poulenc, and above all Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, who invented new musical forms. More recently, at the middle of the 20th century, Maurice Ohana, Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Boulez contributed to the evolution of contemporary classical music.

The second group: we are for German (Мы за немецкий язык)

German:

I would like to learn the second language. I am for German. Germany is a great country of famous persons and l would like to visit German because of it. Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany, is a federal parliamentary republic in western-central Europe consisting of 16 constituent states. Germany is a major economic and political power of the European continent and a historic leader in many cultural, theoretical and technical fields.

I am interested in music. My favorite composers are Ludwig van Beethoven (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn). I want to tell you about them. German classical music includes the works of the world's most well-known composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Franz Schubert, Georg Friedrich Händel, Carl Maria von Weber, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Carl Orff.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was born in Bonn in Germany. At 17 he went to Vienna to study under Mozart. The teacher and the student soon became friends. Later, he studied with Joseph Haydn too. By the age of 32, he knew he was going deaf. Deeply depressed, he had to give up playing, but was able to go on composing because he could still hear the sound of the music in his head. We remember him for many great works - including masterpieces such as the Moonlight Sonata and his famous Ninth Symphony, in which he introduced choral music the first time in a symphony.

I am for a second language too. I would like to learn German. Germany is a country of talented people: composers, artists, writers, mathematicians, scientists. Among them L.V.Beethoven, Mozart, Albert Einstein and others.

The third: we are for one language, we are against the second language or several.

As for me, I don't think we need a second language or several languages at school. For example, American people learn only one language and they don't consider themselves badly educated people.

I believe, English is enough for our students. To my mind, English is the most widely spoken language in the world. It is the language of science and technology, the language of such famous people as Dickens, Oscar Wilde. And so I have a great opportunity to read their work in the original. English broadens our minds greatly.

From my point of view, English is the most popular language in the world. But I believe, it is not so easy to study English because of its complicated grammar. Besides, we have a lot of other subjects at school, and one more language will distract students' attention from them, it would be harder to get ready for exams.
To my mind, we should learn only English. It will help me to study well and get a job in tourist industry. English will help me communicate with people all over the world and make friends in different European countries.

Conclusion (Заключение)

Leader (Слова ведущего): «Спасибо за выступления. Теперь мы проведем голосование. В анкетах с вопросами вы отдадите свои голоса за изучение двух или нескольких языков или одного языка. (Thank you for your presentations and discussions. Now let's vote.
