Lesson plan

Warm up

1. Greet the learners.

2. Show a picture of Earth and say This is our planet. It'scalledEarth. (Приложение 1. Презентация. Слайд 2).

Act out dropping litter on the floor or show the slide and ask if it's good or bad (Слайд 3)

Act out putting litter in the bin or show the slide and ask if it's good or bad. Why? (Слайд 4)

Say Right. We need to look after our planet.

Presentation:

1. Preteach new vocabulary. (Слайд 5)

2. Show the worksheet (ex.1) and ask students to tick the activities that are good for the planet. (Приложение 2)

3. Check the activity together. Put up two pictures of Earth on the board: one showing a happy face, the other one showing a sad face (Приложение 3 и Приложение 4). If you don't have pictures, you can draw them on the board. Then hand out smaller pictures with the same actions as they are in the worksheet for students to place them on the correct picture of Earth. (Приложение 5). When doing it, encourage students to speak. e.g. Growing trees is good. Water pollution is bad.

4. Ask Do you think we can help the Earth from home? How? Students share their ideas.

Give an example:

  1. I don't use lots of paper.
  2. I recycle my plastic cup.

5. Show students the worksheet with ex.2 and ask to match the ideas with the pictures. (Приложение 2). Check together.

6. Draw four recycling bins for plastic and metal, paper, glass, compost and reusable things e.g. a bottle, a candy wrapper, a banana, a book and demonstrate sorting out by drawing a line. Say Look. I'm sorting out paper, glass, plastic and metal and food for recycling. What is recycling? And why should we recycle? Students share their ideas. Say Right. With recycling we can make new things out of old ones. Recycling can help save the planet. (Слайд 6)

Practice:

1. Play the game online. Ask students to put the objects into the right bin. https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/fun-games/games/clean-green

2. Ask students to work in pairs and do the survey "How green are you?" (Приложение 6)

3. When finished, ask volunteers to say the result.

Production:

1. Say Now you're going to work individually to make a recycling bin. (Слайд 7)

Provide students with necessary materials. Help if needed. Ask to follow your instructions:

1. Cut a hole in the upper side of the bottle.

2. Glue coloured paper around the bottle.

3. Stick a recycling label on the bottle.

4. Hang recycling bins in the classroom.

Note: Due to lack of time one student makes one bin. Make sure students create different bins. As a result, you have four bins to be used in your classroom: paper, plastic and metal, glass, compost. Students may keep the rest of the bins or share with other teachers.

End of the lesson

1. Make assessment.

2. Give homework to make a Go green poster. Explain that students may use magazine pictures or draw themselves. They should include ideas discussed at the lesson (Слайд 8).
