Aim(s):

Materials needed:

- Snakes and Ladders sheet;
- dice;
- set of cards with tasks;
- set of cards with answers;
- worksheets with Word Formation tasks.

Preparation:

Print game cards and worksheets.

Procedure:

Step 1. Students are divided into small groups to play a board game and provided with the Snakes and Ladders Template (appendix 1), a set of cards with tasks (appendix 2), a set of cards with answers (appendix 3).

Step 2. Students take turns to throw the dice, pick one card and complete the task given there. In case they have doubt if the answer is right or wrong, they can refer to cards with answers. The winner is the one who is the closest to the Finish by the time all the tasks are completed.

Step 3. As a follow-up activity students complete two exercises practicing Word Formation task.

Variation(s)

- Students may continue the game even if all the tasks are complete. In this case they can make up their own tasks similar to ones in the cards.
- After the game, students might be encouraged to make notes of new words they came across during the game.
