Materials needed:

Worksheet with a poem and exercises

Preparation:

find a poem for children, choose words from the poem, make worksheets with the poem and print

Procedure:

Step 1. Teacher asks «What do you know about pirates? » and shows pictures (sea, pirates, ship, flag etc.)

Step 2. Teacher gives students worksheets. Children read a factual text which contains 10 gaps. They choose the correct word from a choice of three and copy the correct words into the gaps. Then read the whole poem.

Step 3. Students analyze the poem and find the words using associations with the main words.

Step 4. Students analyze the poem and find the words to form collocations.

Variation(s)

Teacher can read the poem to children and they can write the words by listening to you (ex.1)

Reflections

Summarizing the main topic of the class: Children imagine that they are pirates. Draw a pirate and tell their partner or class three things they know about pirates.
