Materials needed:

Pre-A1: presentation, printed little cut outs in little rectangles (attached file "CET.Hand out for Pre-A. Weather"), poster/soft copy of the poster, smart board/laptop, printed copies of Bingo Game for each student, pencils/pens for each student

A1: presentation, smart board/laptop, markers for each student

Preparation:

Learning vocabulary on the topics, spelling words

Procedure Pre-A1:

Step 1. Organize conditions for group work in a classroom

Step 2. Open the presentation (CET Pre-A1, slide 2)

Step 3. Unite class in mini-groups of 3-4 students

Step 4: Give each group cut outs in little rectangles (attached file "CET. Hand out for Pre-A. Weather")

Step 5: In mini-groups students match pictures and words

Step 6: Open (CET Pre-A1, slide 3). Students in mini-groups check

Step 6: Open (CET Pre-A1, slide 4). Hand out cutouts "Bingo" (attached file "Bingo.Chart") and pencils/pens for each student

Step 7: Open (CET Pre-A1, slide 5). Students write numbers in squares

Step 6: Open (CET Pre-A1, slide 6). Teacher gives the instruction: teacher dictates the weather, students listen, hear the word, correlate it with number and cross the number in their bingo list. Who has crossed out all the numbers, shouts BINGO!

Procedure A1:

Step 1: Organize conditions for group work in a classroom

Step 2: Open the presentation (CET A1, slide 2 and slide 3 together), ask questions for warm-up, students answer/whole class discussion

Step 3: Students unite in mini-groups. Think of the name of their team, choose one representative from the team to write the name on the board. Open the presentation (CET A1, slide 4)

Step 4: The representatives of the team collaborate and discuss what number for their team they choose. Then each representative writes the name of the team on the board above the chosen number correspondingly

Step 5: Open the presentation (CET A1, slide5). The representative of the team comes back to his/her team and Passes the marker to another person. The team delegates another representative to write the answer on the board.

Variation(s)

Pre-A1

  1. The teacher can add more cards to the presentation to enrich Student's vocabulary
  2. Students can describe their favourite weather.
  3. Students can describe favourite weather of their family members and their friends
  4. Students can create collages of the weather in their country
  5. Student can create collages about the weather typical for different parts of the world

A1:

  1. To describe after-school activities students have every day of the week
  2. Create class time table according to the lessons they have and the time lessons start and finish
  3. Write an essay on the topic "What part of the day is my favourite and why"
  4. Write an essay on the topic "What season is favourite among my family members"
  5. Create Bingo with questions about birthdays among peers in the class

Reflections

  1. What activity was your favourite?
  2. What activity you would like to share with your peers from another class?
  3. What is the next step of our group work after this lesson?
