Schools in Gret Britain
Dear Russian friends, I’m writing this letter from England. My name is Jane. I’m twelve. I go to school. It is a girls’ school. In our country boys and girls usually study together, but there are still schools where boys and girls study separately.
The teaching staff of our school is not very large. We have a headmistress, a deputy head, about twenty teachers and four hundred studentss. It is a comprehensive school, so there are not only academic subjects but students can also take accounting, typing, shorthand, nursing and housekeeping. We have classes five days a week, Monday to Friday. I get to school at 8.40. We have prayers at 8.50 and start our lessons at 9.30. We have five lessons in the morning: two before break and three after break. After lunch we have two more lessons. But we also have an extra hour to discuss our form matters with the form mistress. School usually ends at 3.40.
We learn such subjects as: English, French, German, Maths, History, Science, Geography, Needlework, Art, Drama, Physical Training, Music and Religious Instructions.
I think that is all about me. I hope to hear about you soon.
Please, write to me about your school. Do boys and girls study together? How many lessons are there every day? What subjects do you study in your school?
Keep in touch! Write me soon. Yours, Jane.

You listened to the text about schools in Britain. You also get and read some pupils’ e-mail letters from English-speaking countries. So you’ve learnt much interesting information. My name is Irene and I’d like to tell you about schools in Russia.
The right to education in Russia is guaranteed. (more information Federal Law № 273 from 26.07.2019 (Article 5).
Every boy or girl must get secondary education; it means that secondary education is compulsory in our country. There are state schools where education is free of charge and private schools where pupils’s relatives have to pay for their studies.
I live in Kurganinsk. It is in Krasnodar kray. I study at a secondary school. My school was built many years ago. When I was ten I left primary school and went to a secondary one.
Now I am eleven and I am a pupil of the fifth form. We go to school from Monday to Friday. We usually have six lessons a day. Every school has a core curriculum and a school curriculum. The core curriculum includes such subjects as Maths, Russian and Literature, Biology, History, Geography, English, Art, PT, Music and other subjects. According to the school curriculum we can choose extra activities.
As for me I take Plant Growing twice a week: on Tuesdays and Fridays. I am good at all subjects and get only good and excellent marks.
Lessons begin at 8 a.m. and last to 1 or 2 p. m. We have some breaks for lunch and rest. Teachers give us home tasks after each lesson.
