Разделы: Иностранные языки

T: Dear friends, we invite you to the POETIC PARLOUR, to recite and listen to the poems written by famous English poets, such as R. Burns, R.L. Stevenson and others.

Robert Burns (January 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796) is the best known of the poets who have written in Scottish. His poem Auld Lang Syne is often sung at Hogmanay in Great Britain, especially in Scotland (звучит песня в записи.)

P1: He was born in Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland to a poor farming family.  In 1783 he started composing poetry in a traditional style using the Ayrshire dialect of Scots. These poems were well received locally and in 1786 they were published. This volume made him famous in Scotland overnight. He died at the age of 37 as a result of a weak heart. His memory is celebrated by Burns clubs across the world; his birthday is an unofficial "National Day" for Scots and all Burns supporters, lovers and fans. (Приложение 1)

A Red, Red Rose

My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June:
My love is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love,
And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand miles!

P2: “My Heart’s in the Highlands” (ученик читает стихотворение Р. Бернса)

P3: Robert Louis Stevenson (November 13, 1850 - December 3, 1894)

The Scottish writer and poet, author of the world-famous adventure novels and stories, the greatest representative of English neo-romanticism. The author of a novel about the adventures of people searching for treasures hidden by pirate Flint on a desert island (ученики читают стихотворения написанные Р.Л. Стивенсоном, Приложение 1)

Here is one of his best works
«Man May Lear

What man may learn, what man may do,
Of right or wrong of false or true,
While, skipper-like, his course he steers
Through nine and twenty mingled years,
Half misconceived and half forgot,
So much I know and practise not.

Old are the words of wisdom, old
The counsels of the wise and bold:
To close the ears, to check the tongue,
To keep the pining spirit young;
To act the right, to say the true,
And to be kind whate'er you do.

Thus we across the modern stage
Follow the wise of every age;
And, as oaks grow and rivers run
Unchanged in the unchanging sun,
So the eternal march of man
Goes forth on an eternal plan.
