The objectives of the lesson:
- to practise listening for details
- to develop speaking skills on the basis of the text
- to activate students background knowledge in order to help them predict likely vocabulary in a given text
- to develop critical thinking
Materials
- Presentation “Bill Gates”;
- audio-visual equipment;
- handouts.
Procedures
I. Beginning of the lesson
1) Greetings
2) Introducing the aim and the contents of the lesson
II. Pre-listening activities
1) A short discussion T → CL about well-known people, reasons why they are famous.
2) Developing skills of unprepared speech. (Slide 2) T → CL
T: Look at the man. Can you guess who he is? What is he famous for? / What do you know about him?
3) Revision of the words “Appearance” using the table “Appearance” on the blackboard. P1P2 → CL
