London.
Teacher:
Today we are going to speak about London. We’ll remember interesting places of the British capital. You’ve read and heard about them and done exercises. Now it’s the time to sum your knowledge up.
1. The first task is to arrange letters in the right order.
CALAPE – a beautiful building for kings and queens,
RAQUES – a place, where demonstrations and other great events take place.
HURCHC – a special building, where Christians go on holidays such as Christmas and Easter.
MEMUSU – an interesting place where you can see different collections and items.
RISPON – a building where bad people stay for their punishment.
DRIGBE – it’s an object which connects both banks of the river.
2. Let’s remember the use of articles with such places.
The Thames; Fleet Street; Trafalgar Square; Piccadilly Circus; St. Paul’s Cathedral; Tower Bridge; The Tower of London; The Raven Master; The National Gallery; Buckingham Palace; Westminster Abbey; St. James Park; Regent’s Park and Hyde Park.
3. Do you remember the most interesting places of London? Imagine, you are taking a bus tour about the British capital.

P1: London is one of the largest cities in the world.
About 7 million people live here. London is more than 2 thousand years old.
London’s most famous sights are Tower Bridge and
Big Ben, the Houses of the Parliament and
Trafalger Square. St. Paul’s Cathedral is well-known all over the world. You’ll see all these places from our red double-decker.
We start from Trafalgar Square.
P2: On the column in the centre there is a statue of Admiral Nelson who defeated the French fleet at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Trafalgar Square is the centre of London. It’s the most beautiful place in the capital.
There are 2 wonderful fountains in the square.
People usually gather there on holidays.
P1: To the left of us you can see the National gallery. It has a fine collection of European paintings.
P3: National Gallery is a nice building with columns. It is rich in pictures. 15The gallery is famous for its collections.
P1: Look right. We are passing Hyde Park.
P4: In the park anyone can stand up and say what they want. It is a very democratic place.
A lot of people come to Hyde Park to have rest.
You can go boating or walk on the grass.
People from many countries come to the Speaker’s Corner to listen and to speak here.
P1: Now we are at the Buckingham Palace. It is the London home of the queen.
Look, they are changing the Guard. It’s happens every day at 11.30 am. P5: Buckingham Palace is the residence of the British Queen.
You can see a flag if the queen is in the palace.
There is The Queen Victoria Memorial in front of it.
People come to the Palace to watch the ceremony of the changing of the Guard.
P1: We have just turn left and you can see St. James’s Park. It is one of the royal parks.
Here you can see pelicans and ducks.
P6: People come to the park to watch and feed birds.
There is a statue of a duck and ducklings there.
It is the most beautiful park in London.
P1: There are a lot of parks and gardens in London. In Regent’s Park there is London Zoo.
P7: It is one of the biggest zoos in the world.
Regent’s Park is the home of exotic animals.
It has a lot of birds and animals from many countries of the world. 36There is a park in the zoo too.
P1: In front of you there are the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. It is the seat of the British Parliament.
P8: Big Ben is one of the famous clock-bells in the world.
It is a well-known grey building. British Parliament makes laws there. 40Famous Big Ben is on the one of the towers.
It is a great clock-bell which you can hear every hour.
P1: In a moment you will see Westminster Abbey. It is a royal church.
Here you can see the tombs of many British kings and queens.
P9: Westminster is a very old and beautiful church.
Coronation of kings and queens takes place there.
You can see the tombs of famous British people.
P1: From here you can see the Tower of London. It was a fortress, a royal palace and later a prison. It’s a museum now.
P10: The ravens are another famous sight. The legend says that without them the Tower will fall.
The Raven Master is the person who gives them food.
The Tower has a long and tragically history. It was built in the 11century. 51You can see White Tower and Bloody Tower there.
Now it’s a museum and it has a lot of interesting collections.
P1: We are now making our way to the second famous church, St. Paul’s Cathedral.
P11: It is the greatest work of the architect Sir Christopher Wren.
After the Great Fire in London churches and houses were built in stone. 56Sir Christopher Wren was offered to construct St. Paul’s Cathedral. It took him 38 years to do it. He was buried there too.

P12: The British Museum is the biggest one in London.
It’s well—known all over the world.
It has a lot of coins, documents and books.
