1. Приветствие.

- Good morning, boys and girls. How are you today? How many subjects do you have today? Do you like these subjects? Do you like your school?

Let’s discuss the attitude of modern pupils to school on today’s lesson. For successful discussion I would like you to study the words and word combinations from exercise 1.

I think it’s true/I think you’re right.

In my opinion it’s true.

I agree with you (one hundred percent)

I’m all for it.

I’m positive.

I believe so, too.

Maybe, it’s true.

It depends.

Sometimes it’s true, sometimes not.

I don’t know.

Not always.

I don’t think so.

I’m not sure (it’s true).

I doubt it.

It can’t be true.

I don’t agree, I’m afraid/

Besides...

2. Let’s start our discussion and answer the questions from exercise 2.

Do you like school? Why? (It’s fun/boring, I can meet friends there, you must get up early, too much homework, the teachers are friendly, ...)

Have you got lots of friends at school?

Why do children go to school (because they want to be clever, because they want to have a good job in the future, because they have many friends there, because they like the teachers/lessons, ...)?

3. Not only you but almost every person in the modern world goes to school. There are some quotations of such people, say if they are true or false for you. Justify your opinion.

  1. “You don't appreciate (ценишь) a lot of stuff (вещей) in school until (пока не) you get older.” Emo Philips (American entertainer and comedian)
  2. “He who opens a school door, closes a prison (тюрьму).” Victor Hugo (French writer)
  3. “School is practice for the future, and practice makes perfect and nobody's perfect so why bother?” Billie Joe Armstrong (American musician, “Green day”)

Do they have tests and examinations? What marks can they have? How many subjects have they got? Let’s watch the presentation “Schools in Great Britain and the USA”. Which school would you like to go to? Why? Are they similar to Russian schools?

9. If you want you can ask your teacher question about school, for example:

  2. Did you have lots of friends at school?
  3. Did you often miss classes? Were you a good student?
  4. What was your favourite subject? Why?

What is your idea of an ideal school? (teachers give only good marks, lessons are creative (творческие), there is no uniform,...)

11. To sum our lesson up, please tell me: Can school be fun or is it always boring?

Thank you for your work and attention. I hope school will be more interesting and more pleasant now for you.
