  • создать условия для развития коммуникативных навыков через диалогическую речь (посредством использования иностранного языка для изготовления игрушки)
  • создать условия для развития долговременной памяти
  • развития навыка аудирования
  • воспитание уважения к культуре страны изучаемого языка

  • Audio CD (для прослушивания текста УМК “English World 3” Unit 4, Reading “The American pioneers”)

Ход урока

Teacher: Good morning children! I am very glad to see you.

First of all I would like to remember the rules of the English lesson. What are they?

Pupils:

Speak English!

Don’t make noise!

Listen to your teacher and friends!

Teacher: (Slide 2) I see. Remember these rules! Today we are going to speak about the life of American pioneers. And at the end of the lesson you will answer the questions:

Was the life of American pioneers difficult?

Was their life interesting?

First of all let’s listen the text about the American pioneers. (Audio CD tracks 36-37)

(Slide 3)

Teacher: Now answer my questions:

When did people travel across America?

Pupils: They travelled across America a hundred years ago.

Teacher: Who is a pioneer?

Pupils: A pioneer does something first.

Teacher: Where did they stop? Why?

Pupils: They stopped near a river because they needed water

Teacher: How did they get wood?

Pupils: They used axes to chop down the trees.

Teacher: Tell us about their houses.

Pupils: There were two rooms. In one room there was a fire.

Teacher: What did women do?

Pupils: The women cooked food in big pots.

Teacher: How did the children help them?

Pupils: The children fetched water from the river.

Teacher: Were there many toys?

Pupils: There were not many toys.

Teacher: What did the children play?

Pupils: They played skittles. The girls skipped with a rope. All the children played a cup anda ball game.

Teacher: You know a lot about the American pioneers. Now, let’s sum it up. Please, look at the screen. There are the words which can help you to tell me about the first pioneers.

1. American pioneers

(travelled across America)

2. What did they need?

(near the river, chopped down, pulled with ropes, lifted the logs)

3. Their houses

(rooms, big pots, picked up wood, fetched water)

4. Children’s toys

(skipped, skittles, a cup and a ball game)

Teacher: And what about the children?

Did they help their parents?

Pupils: Yes, they did.

Teacher: Did they play a lot?

Pupils: Yes, they did.

Teacher: Did they have many toys?

Pupils: No, they didn’t

Teacher: Did they buy the toys?

Pupils: No, they didn’t buy the toys.

(Slide 6)

Teacher: You are right. They didn’t have any shops to buy toys. They made the toys themselves. Let’s see how to do it. And let’s do one of the toys. Today we are going to make a cup and a ball game. Look at the screen, read the instruction and follow me.

Fold the paper. Cut. (Slide 7)

Open out the big piece. Turn it over. Colour it. (Slide 8)

Turn over the paper again. Fold it. (Slide 9)

Fold it again and cut. Open the paper. (Slide 10)

Stick the string onto it. (Slide 11)

Put side 1 on top of side 2. (Slide 12)

Stick it. (Slide 13)

Make the piece of paper into a ball. (Slide 14)

Stick it on the end of the string. (Slide 15)

Swing the ball up into the air. (Slide 16)

Catch it in the cup. (Slide 17)

Teacher: Try to play it.

Is it difficult?

Pupils: Yes, it is.

Teacher: Is it interesting?

Pupils: Yes, it is.

Teacher: (Slide 19) Was the life of the American pioneers difficult? Why?

Pupils: Their life was difficult. They chopped down the trees, fetched water. The children helped their parents.

Teacher: Was their life interesting? Why?

Pupils: Their life was very interesting. They played a lot. They didn’t have many toys. But they made a lot of toys. It was very interesting.

Teacher: You are right. You can see their toys are very easy to do. And it is very interesting.
