Steps:
1. Introdaction
The problem of school education is rather urgent nowadays because there is a great variety of schools. It is not easy to choose the better one to become both a well-educated and well-brought up person after leaving it. Today you are to read some texts about schools around the world, listen to people talking about schools they went to. Then you will discuss advantages and disadvantages of those schools you learnt about.
2. Warming up (Appendix 1)
3. Reading a gap-filling text about different schools around the world. Then tell each other something you remember about schools in the countries in the text. (Appendix 2)
4. Role-playing
Act out an interview between a British TV presenter and a student at your school. Talk about:
- time it starts and finishes,
- how you get to school,
- if you wear a uniform,
- what the school rules are,
- if there are any clubs there, etc.
5. Listening-comprehension (Appendix 3)
Answer the question: Would you choose any of these two schools for yourself? Why? Why not?
6. Speaking
Work with your partner. Share your ideas and opinions about learning. Consider the following questions:
- what makes a good school?
- what makes a good teacher?
- what makes a good student?
- what makes a good lesson?
Remember to:
- rely on your own experience as a student
- refer to a real-life situation
- give examples
- be polite when you disagree with your partner
7. Finishing the lesson
I see that you are aware of the problem. Thank you for the lesson. You were active, polite and quite tolerant.
