Ход урока
I. Вступительная часть.
Teacher: Good morning, guys and girls.
Children: Good morning.
T: Nice to see you.
Ch: Nice to see you too.
T: Take your places. How are you?
Ch: Very well. Thank you.
I am OK. Thank you.
I'm fine.
Not bad.
T: I am happy to hear that. Let's start our lesson. Today we'll speak about teens, subcultures, youth organizations.
<Приложение 1. Презентация. "Teens. Subculture. Organizations.">
Slide 1
II. Основная часть.
1) Brain storm.
Teacher: We shall begin our work with a brain storm. Think over and say what your associations with the topic "Subculture" are. Will you go to the blackboard, N..., and write down all our suggestions.
Subculture: image, music, emo, goth, clothes, values, punks, hippie...
2) Speaking.
T: I think it will be the plan of our lesson. N..., could you tell me what subculture is?
P 1: A subculture is a group with a distinct style and identity. Different subcultures have their own beliefs, value systems, fashion, and favourite music.
T: Ok! You are right. Go to your place. Now I invite you to discuss all these points in details. Look at the second slide and try to find out 13 names of different subcultures and organizations.
Slides 2 - 14
P 2: Goth wear the blackers black, with a lot of silvery jewellery and have very black hair and look as thin and pale as possible. They read Bram Stocker and talk about being vampires, and about the end of the world.
P 3: Punks are young people who dress in a shocking way to express their identity. They have brightly coloured hair and wear metal chains. They are thought to rebel against the society or the older generation. Their music is aggressive. They reject everything.
P 4: Members of one of the leading (in number) youth organizations in Britain. Scouts are trained to use their initiative, learn to use practical skills. Their moral values are loyalty and responsibility.
P 5: They are the 'wizards' of the computer community; people with a deep understanding of how their computers work, and can do things with them that seem 'magical' to express themselves. Hackers do not protest against their parents.
P 6: Emo occurs from the English word "emotion" and it is translated as emotional. To be Emo is to be themselves and not shy of its actions, emotions and desires.
P 7: A young person who wears a leather jacket, army boots just to show off is a rocker. He is associated with something rebellious.
P 8: These are the folks who use computer-made, synthesized music, and drugs to create massive all-night dance parties. Ravers like to be in a collective. They want to try out all sorts of options and are thought to be violent and rebellious.
P 9: Bikers are persons who ride 2 or sometimes 3 wheeled motorised vehicles and who identify themselves with a special subculture. They usually wear leather jackets and army boots.
P 10: People who in their club get practical experience in agriculture, home crafts and country life are young farmers.
P 11: Some classify these people like drug users and rock and roll fans, since their behaviour and attitudes differ from social norms. Hippies don't conform to society's standards and support a liberal attitude and lifestyle. They accept other people as they are. They always want to change the world for the best.
P 12: Environmentalists are concerned about nature and want to improve or protect our Earth. Usually they join Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth. They prefer non-violent direct actions to solve ecological problems. Earnest Gekkel is the first ecologist in the world. It is he, who in 1866 used the word "ecology" thus calling a science about life of animals and their relation to the environment.
P 13: Volunteers do voluntary work in the community, help needy people, children and animals.
T: Probably you have noticed that many subcultures pay great attention to their image. A tattoo is one of the distinct signs. Can you say anything about this point?
Slide 15
P 14: I want to say some words about tattoos and body piercing. Teenagers do it to show off, to drаw people's attention and to display their individuality. We can see them in many subcultures: bikers, skinheads, rockers, goth.
Slides 16 - 19
P 15: Besides the unusual teenagers' images the possible presence of subculture in the streets can be detected by graffiti. "Graffiti is an Italian word. It was originally used by archeologists. Nowadays, graffiti refers to writing or pictures rude, humorous, political or sexual in content, drawn with spray paint or felt-tip pens on walls in public places, such as buildings, parks, trains, buses, toilets etc. Graffiti is also found in rural areas, often on bridges and rocks along a highway. It is a form of self-expression"... [1, c. 30] Within the programmes of some youth festivals graffiti festivals are held. Though graffiti exists in our towns, cities people still argue if it is an art or acts of vandalism.
T: Oh, it's a very interesting theme for discussion. I think it deserves special time. We can do it somehow. Thank you for the information. It's high time for us to continue our work.
3) Reading.
T: The representatives of different subcultures prefer different music. Let's read the text about the history of musical styles. The first task is matching. You have texts for reading and answer sheets on your desks. Have a look at them. If you have questions ask them.
[3, c.25- 26]
T: Your time is up. Let's check your work. On the twenties slide you can see the right variants.
Slide 21
Now you can put marks. Who has got 5? 4? 3? Well done.
4) Listening comprehension.
T: Now I want you to listen to what British children say about their likes and dislikes. Let's compare our tastes. What music do British teenagers prefer?
Slide 22
T: Look at the slide and repeat after me some names. They will help you to understand better. Is everything clear? Please put on your earphones and listen to the information very attentively. Then put the answers on the answer sheet. [3, c.35]
5) Speaking. Mini - projects.
T: Good job. Now we are ready to continue. I know most of you are fond of music. I adore music too. For today A...has done a project. It is called "Music and Subculture". Let's listen to A...'s story. He will tell us about the main music styles and groups.
Презентация "Music".
Slides 1 - 7
P 16: According to the information from the Internet sites I could say. Hippie prefer rock-n -roll. Their favourite singers were Sonny and Sherr, The Beatles and many others. In the 70-s heavy metal style appeared. It was the music listened by rockers. Heavy metal groups are Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The 80-s is the time of punks. Punk rock became well-known after the coming of the group Sex Pistols and the Clash. Their music was loud, angry, and rebellious. Modern teenagers listen to techno, rap.
T: Music festivals became common nowadays. What do you know about their beginning?
Slides 8 - 9
P 16: Woodstock festival became the greatest event in the youth culture. The first Rock Music Festival took place in Bethel (New York) in August 1969. Famous rock groups such as The Band, Country Joe, the Who performed there. Nowadays rock festivals are held in Russia. To my mind, Nashetvie in Tver' and Tornado in Miass are the most well-known.
T: Thank you. Next will be P.... He has found information about Voronezh. Tell us about it.
<Приложение 2. Презентация "Voronezh and subculture".>
Slides 1 - 4
P 17: Different youth movements can be found in Voronezh. Some of them are official, others are not. Great job is done by volunteers, scouts. In the streets of Voronezh we can see representatives of Emo, goth, bikers and so on.
T: We have discussed a lot today. But we don't your parents' opinions upon this point. K... will share information with you.
<Приложение 1. Презентация. "Teens. Subculture. Organizations.">
Slide 25 - 26
P 18: Before the lesson I was given the task to interview parents and classmates. I asked them questions about their attitude to different subcultures. Twenty per cent of mothers don't want their children to join youth groups. Fathers are much more categorical. As for classmates the results you can see on the next slide.
6) Dialogue.
Slide 27 - 28 [7, c.33 - 34]
T: Now I want you to work in pairs and discuss these situations. How would you react? Use phrases "(un)willing to do something" and "giving reasons".
T: Today we can't do without a song. M... has prepared a surprise for you. Let's welcome M....
Slide 29
песня "Spider's Web" by Katie Melua.
T: Do you like it? To my mind, the surprise was excellent! Thank you very much, M.... Are you ready to continue? OK!
7) Синквейн.
T: I want you to write a short poem, it is called a cinquain. You should follow some rules. All words in it should help to reveal the topic. The first line is a noun. It is the theme. On the second line you will write two adjectives, they will help to describe the topic given in the first line. The third line - three verbs, on the fifth - you will write the phrase. It may be proverb, idiomatic phrase, someone's saying. The last line - one more noun. It's a conclusion comprises your own attitude to the problem.
T: On the sheets of paper there are nouns (topics) for you. You have some time to do this task. Then come to the blackboard and share your thoughts with classmates.
III. Итоги урока.
T: Thank you for your cinquains. Our lesson is practically over. In your diaries you will put marks that you have got for listening and reading. Don't forget to put down your home task. Leaving our classroom I want you to put the "smiles" on the blackboard. They will show your impressions about our lesson. Here is the bell. I think that is all for today. Our lesson is over. Good bye. See you on Monday. Thank you for the work.
