We Celebrate Christmas!
I. T: Dear children, today we are celebrating Christmas.
T: Can you tell me when people celebrate Christmas in Great Britain and Russia? (In Britain people celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December. In Russia people celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January.)
Do the English people sing any songs on this day? What Christmas songs do you know? (Jingle Bells, Christmas Cards, Santa Claus Is On His Way).
Let’s sing one of them.
II. «Jingle Bells»
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
Down the hill we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Jingle bells, Jingle Bells!
Jingle all the way!
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one– horse open sleigh!
III. T: Now you will be divided into 2 teams. (Students change their places). At the blackboard you can see the symbols of Christmas. (Each team gets the cards and pictures). Match the symbols of Christmas with pictures. I’ll give the points to the quickest team after each task.
A Christmas tree
Santa Claus
A reindeer
Snow
A candy
A roast turkey
Ribbons and tinsels
Bells
Christmas stockings
Mistletoe
IV. T: Choose one of the symbols to name your team. (The teams choose their title.)
T: As far as we see you know Christmas symbols. Look through the Christmas word search. Find out as many Christmas words as you can. Do this task in turn. (Each team is given the task.)
(ball, bell, candy, deer ,elf , gift, santa, snow, star, toy, tree)
V. Now we’ll see if you remember the most important facts about today’s holiday. Answer my questions. The right answers to the questions will bring the points to your teams.
- What is the name of the day before Christmas? (Christmas Eve)
- How do people prepare for this day? (buy presents)
- How do they decorate a Christmas tree? (with tinsels , ribbons, bells)
- What delicious bird do they cook on this day? (a roast turkey)
- Where do they put Christmas stockings? (on the fireplace)
- Who brings presents for children? (Santa Claus)
- Who helps Santa Claus with his work? (reindeer)
- How are Christmas sweets called? (candies)
VI. Dear children, there is no Christmas without a Christmas tree. Do you remember any legend connected with a Christmas tree? The team which tells the whole story gets one point.
(There are many legends why we decorate a Christmas tree. One of them says that three trees grew near the cave where Jesus Christ was born. They were a palm tree, an olive, a fur– tree. They wanted to make presents for the child. The fur-tree didn’t have any presents and it went aside. The angel was sorry for the fur-tree. He made a sign and the sparkling stars came down on the fur– tree. When the child woke up he saw the fur– tree with sparkling stars on it. The child stretched hands to the tree. The angel saw that and said that since that time the fur-tree would have pleased other children with its sparkling beauty.)
VII. Now you have to decorate the fur-tree with Christmas wishes. (The tree is drawn on the blackboard). Take pieces of paper and try to remember as many wishes as you can. The team which remembers more wishes will win in this task. Pupils stick their pieces of paper with wishes on the blackboard.
With best wishes for the holidays and the coming year!
Joy to you at Christmas and always!
May all the day of Christmas be marry to you!
Have a wonderful holiday season!
The warmest wishes for a very happy holiday season!
At Christmas, may you share the gift of love!
May your days be marry and bright!
Every angel sings, every Church bell rings, with the massage of hope and love!
So it’s time to finish our party. I want to tell you the results of our contest. (All children get presents– sweets, chocolate medals ).
Merry Christmas, dears! I wish you good health, good luck! Here are small presents for everybody! Thank you!
