Класс: 10.

Цель: создание условий для самоопределения учащихся в конкретной проблемной ситуации.

Задачи урока:

  • Образовательные: создать актуальную проблемную ситуацию, формирование коммуникативных навыков на основе изученного грамматического и лексического материала, формировать УУД (навыки работы с текстом (просмотровое и поисковое чтение).
  • Развивающие: формирование умения оценивать ситуацию с разных точек зрения и аргументировать свою позицию с приобщением личного опыта учащихся, формирование навыков критического мышления (анализ, синтез, формулировка выводов).
  • Воспитательные: формирование активной жизненной позиции, готовность и желание взаимодействовать с другими, умение поставить себя на место другого, уважение к другой точки зрения, толерантности.

Социокультурный аспект: знакомство с особенностями системы образования в Великобритании.

Особенности урока: высокий уровень самостоятельности детей, проблемная ситуация актуальна для данной группы, используются задания открытого типа (есть возможность высказать свою точку зрения, обеспечивается две точки зрения на проблему) с привлечением личного опыта учащихся.

Введение текста обусловлено задачей получения темы для обсуждения.

Включение всех учащихся в деятельность на уроке.

Мотивация за счет актуальности проблемы.

Ход урока

I. Greeting (2 min)

Greeting:

Good afternoon, children! I’m glad to see you. Take your seats and let’s start our lesson.

II. Introducing the topic (3 min)

You are the pupils of the 10th form and, to my mind, you start to think over your future profession. It’s often difficult for young people to make a right choice. Look at the screen. (слайд 1).

It’s interesting enough that only 60% of graduates have a job which is connected with their qualification. The main reason of this situation is the wrong choice of future profession.

(слайд 2) The statistics say that more than half of Russian school leavers choose their profession with the help of their parents. 20% of them follow their friends’ advice. And only 20% of young people choose their profession themselves.

The problem of young people determination is one of the most important problems nowadays not only in Russia but all over the world.

There are some interesting ways of solving this problem in different countries. In Britain, for example, school leavers are given one more chance. (слайд 3) They can take a “gap year” (слайд 4) after secondary school and before starting university. They can think over their future plans and their future profession one more time. They can do something other than schooling (for example travel abroad or work).

III. Reading the article (7 min)

In the article we are going to read right now (look at the texts on the desks) British school leavers and their parents share their experience with us. Please read the text and find the arguments for and against taking a gap year after school in Britain. I give you 5 minutes to do it. There are some new words at the foot of the page.

IV. Discussion (5 min)

Look at the blackboard and help me to complete the table.

Such situation is in Great Britain, in the country of customs and traditions.

And what about our country? You know that we have some changes in the system of Education in Russia. It’s often called the reform of education (слайд 5).

So, the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offers everybody to make any amendments in Education Law.

Let’s take the occasion to take part in such interesting situation. Imagine that Russian school leavers will have an opportunity to take a gap year after school before universities.

Is it possible in Russian system of Education? Why?

V. Work in groups (10 min)

Let’s play. Imagine that you are politicians: members of Parliament and you discuss the amendment of a gap year in Russian system of Education.

I want you to divide into two groups: the first group will find the arguments for it, the second one will try to find disadvantages of it.

(work in groups, make a list of advantages and disadvantages).

Choose one student in a group who will present your point of you.

VI. Reflection (2 min)

Do you really want to have a gap year after school? Why?

Do you really need a gap year after school? Why?

There are a lot of people and a lot of points of you. You may choose any profession you like but think a lot.

Make any amendment you like in Education Law. (слайд 7)
