Цель урока: углубление и расширение знаний учащихся о стране изучаемого языка.
Задачи:
Учебные –
1) введение и семантизация новых
лексических единиц по теме;
2) совершенствование навыков поискового чтения;
3) совершенствование навыков аудирования и
устной речи;
Развивающие –
1) развитие мышления, внимания, памяти,
языковой догадки
2) развитие самостоятельности
3) расширение кругозора (развитие
лингвострановедческой компетенции).
Воспитывающие –
1) воспитывать уважение к собеседнику,
умение выслушать;
2) научить сотрудничеству и работе в группе.
Оснащение урока: карта США, фотографии с видами штатов и городов, иллюстрация к тексту “The USA – a melting pot”, плакат с названиями народов США, индивидуальные карточки по теме, листы для групповой работы (см. ПРИЛОЖЕНИЕ №1).
Оформление доски: Theme: “ The United States of America” карта США, новая лексика по теме (‘a melting pot’, ‘a salad bowl’, slave).
Сокращения в разработке урока:

Ход урока:
1. Организационный момент. Приветствие.
T –> Class: Good morning, girls and boys! Nice to see you. Let’s begin the lesson of English.
2. Вступительное слово учителя: сообщение темы урока и плана работы.
Учитель показывает на карту США и просит учеников назвать страну, тем самым, знакомя их с темой урока.
T: Look at the board. You can see a map here. What country is it?
P1: The United States of America.
T: Right. The theme of our lesson is “The United States of America”. (Учитель показывает название темы на доске.) Today we are going to speak about different features of this country. First we’ll play a game, then I’ll check the homework (telling about the names of the states) and you will learn some more information about the USA.
3. Речевая зарядка:
T: Look at the pictures,remember and answer the question– what landscapes are typical of the USA?(слайд 3)
4. “Мозговой штурм” Групповая работа.
Цель игры – выяснить, что учащиеся уже знают о США.
Класс делится на четыре группы по четыре-пять человек. Каждой группе выдаётся лист бумаги, на котором заранее написаны заголовки Cities, States, Rivers, Mountains (города, штаты, реки, горы). Учащимся необходимо записать совместными усилиями известную им на данный момент информацию о США под предложенными заголовками, добавляя артикль the. Игра проводится довольно быстро, за определённое время – 5-7 минут.
T: Let’s play.The aim of the game is to discover how much you know about the USA. Work in groups. Look at the board and group the names using the. I’ll give you 5-7 minutes.
Когда время истекло, их заполненные листы сравниваются следующим образом: один ученик из каждой группы читает записи, учитель заносит их на один большой лист (либо на доску).

T: Tell about the names of the states.
P1: Alaska is the largest and most northern state of the US, so the nickname of Alaska is The Great Land.
Kansas is situated in the central part of the country; that is why one of its nicknames is The Central State. Another popular name is The Sunflower State.
P2: Florida is the most southern state. It is famous for its hot weather and white beaches. Florida’s popular nickname is The Sunshine State.
Vermont is situated in the Green mountains. The people living there are called “Green Mountains boys” and the state is called The Green Mountain State.
P3: Because of its nature the state of Washington is called The Evergreen State.
There are several states whose nicknames are connected with lakes and rivers. For example, Utah is called The Salt Lake State because the Great Salt Lake is situated on its territory.

T: Listen to learn more information about the American states
California, a US state on the Pacific Ocean, is also called the Golden State. It became part of the United States in 1845.
When gold was discovered, California’s population grew rapidly. Wheat soon became the chief crop. Rice and barley became important too. Among the other important crops are cotton, vegetables, fruit, and dairy products.
California has the largest population of all the states and its largest city is Los Angeles. It is known for Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Disneyland, the Silicon Valley and for its agricultural and wine products.
In 1909 the first film studio opened in Los Angeles. Today, the Los Angeles suburb, Hollywood has become film and television centre.
Another large city of California is San Francisco, which is a financial and communications centre for trade with Asia.
The capital of California is Sacramento.
It’s interesting to know that Ronald Reagan, a US film actor, was a governor of California in 1966-74 and later he became the 40th US President. Now another famous film star, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the Governor of California.

6. Ознакомление с новым материалом: введение и семантизация лексических единиц по теме, лингвострановедческая информация о национальном составе США
а) новая лексика и знакомство с понятием “плавильный котёл”;
T: Now you know that states have their nicknames. By the way, cities also have their nicknames (for example, New York – “The Big Apple”) and even the country may have its nickname. The USA is often called ‘a melting pot’.
Учащимся предлагается рассмотреть фотографии и сделать предположение, из каких стран приехали люди, чтобы жить в Америке. Они знакомятся с прозвищем страны ‘melting pot’ (“плавильный котёл”): образным выражением, означающим место, где живёт множество людей разных национальностей. Кроме того, характеризуя многонациональный состав США, часто используют и другие выражения (метафоры): ‘pizza’ (“пицца”) и ‘salad bowl’ (“миска с салатом”). The population of the USA is about250 million people of many nationalities.Who are the Americans?Where did they come from?
The American Indians were the first to live in that vast land.They had ancient culture.When C.Columbus arrived, in 1492,there were about 1,500,000 Indians in America. But then,the immigrants came.Most come from Europe,but there were also many from the Middle East,as well as millions of Africans and others.Now there are more than 25 million British Americans,about 23 million African Americans,25 million German Americans and Irish Americans.

7. Объяснение домашнего задания: (на выбор).
Учитель предлагает учащимся дома поисковое задание на выбор: найти информацию о том, какие народы проживают в России, из каких стран они приехали или сколько человек эмигрировало из России в США, Это задание является дополнительным, так как у большинства учеников остаётся старое домашнее задание – подготовка проектных работ.
T: Now you know why the USA is called ‘a melting pot’. At home try to find out about different groups of people in Russia or how many people from Russia have gone to live in the United States. Please write down your home task.
8. Подведение итогов, оценивание работы учащихся на уроке.
Учащиеся кратко подводят итог того, что они нового узнали на уроке, и какую информацию можно добавить в листы, которые они заполняли в начале урока (см. п.3 разработки урока – “мозговой штурм”). Учитель оценивает работу каждого ученика, комментировано выставляя отметки; благодарит учащихся за работу.
