Цели урока:
- образовательная - обобщить знания учащихся об особенностях и традициях английского чаепития; познакомить учащихся с песней "I'm a Little Teapot"; повторить лексику по данной теме; оценить проектные работы учащихся;
- развивающая - развивать монологическую речь учащихся, их творческие способности; развивать навыки аудирования текста учащимися;
- воспитательная - воспитывать у учащихся интерес к познанию истории и культуры других стран и народов; учить правильно и грамотно выступать на публике; учить соблюдать этикет за столом.
Оборудование: проектор, компьютер, постамент для выступлений рядом с экраном, накрытый по английским правилам стол, атрибуты английского чаепития.
Ход урока
I. Организационный момент.
Учитель: Good morning, dear children! <Презентация по ходу всего урока> Today we'll talk about English Tea: its history, its traditions, its ceremonies etc. I know you've prepared texts, stories, some facts about English Tea. Certainly we'll listen to you very carefully. And I see you have set the table according to the English traditions. It's very nice.
II. Фонетическая разминка.
Учитель: At first listen the song "I'm a little teapot".
I'm a little teapot
Short and stout.
This is my handle,
This is my spout.When the water's boiling,
Give a shout,
" Tip me over
and pour me out!"
Учитель: Fill in the gaps with the necessary words.
Учитель: And now sing along.
III. Основная часть урока.
Учитель: Traditionally the English drink tea six or seven times a day: in bed, at breakfast, at lunch, during the day and at 5 o'clock. Why is tea drinking so popular? Let's try to answer to this question.
Now you will present your projects. You've been divided into 3 groups. Each group will come to the blackboard and will present its part of the project.
Команда 1: From history
In the 1662 Prince Charles II married the Portuguese princess, Catherine of Braganza, who brought to the court the habit of drinking tea.
Firstly tea had the success among aristocracy, and then among other English citizens. The popularity of tea was formed slowly but forever.
Команда 2: There are some interesting tea proverbs and idioms:
Reading the tea-leaves - predicting when something will happen (гадание на кофейной гуще);
Husband's tea - very weak tea;
Not for all the tea in China - not at any price (ни за какие коврижки);
Easy as tea-drinking - easy deal;
Storm in a tea-cup / a tea-kettle - a big fuss made in a small context (буря в стакане воды);
A cup of tea - a person,
- an activity that you like or at which you are superior;
An old cup of tea - an old woman;
An unpleasant cup of tea - a gloomy man;
To be one's cup of tea - to be liked by someone;
A quiet cup of tea - an untroubled state (чашка чая, выпитая в тишине).
Команда 3: Nowadays the English usually drink tea with milk and sometimes with sugar in a mug.
They like strong tea. In England they say jokingly: "The test of good tea is simple. If the spoon stands up in it, then it is strong enough; if the spoon starts to wobble, it is a feeble makeshift".
Even very slightly formal events can be a cause for cups and saucers instead of mugs.
Команда 1: English Tea Ritual (учащиеся демонстрируют все предметы)
For English tea ceremony you need:
- A table covered by a white or blue tablecloth
- A small vase with fresh white flowers
- Napkins
- A teapot with tea
- A tea cup and a saucer - for every tea-drinking person
- A dessert plate - for every tea-drinking person
- A teaspoon, a fork and a knife - for every tea-drinking person
- A jug with boiled water
- A jug with milk or cream
- A tea strainer with a saucer for it
- A sugar-bowl with sugar cubes
- a tea-cozy
Команда 2: How to Make English Tea (учащиеся показывают процесс приготовления чая по ходу рассказа)
1. Fill the kettle with cold water.
2. Boil the water.
3. Warm the pot.
4. Put one teaspoon of tea in the pot for each person and one extra for the pot.
5. Pour hot water into the pot.
6. Place a tea strainer over the top of the cup and pour the tea in.
7. Place a tea cozy on the teapot to keep the tea warm.
If you want, you can add some milk and sugar. The tea can be served with plenty of bread and butter, stewed fruit, jam, with cream or custard and pastries or a good cake and many-many other snacks.
The main secrets of English tea are:
- the pot should be warmed beforehand
- the water should be actually boiled
- the tea should be strong
- Enjoy your tea!
Команда 3: You can read George Orwell's essay "A Nice Cup of Tea", this text is mentioned as the Main Instruction on English tea tradition.
But I think this English tradition is a lovely way to spend time with friends in a genteel and special atmosphere.
Учитель: Very good. You have found the answer to my question: Why is tea drinking so popular? There are many opinions. But the main one is that it's a lovely way to spend time with friends. We have enough of words. Cutting a long story short, take your seats at the table and let's have a nice cup of tea!
IV. Закрепление.
Учитель: Let's check how well you know about English Tea. Find as many words as you can that you have heard this lesson. (Слова не преломляются)
V. Домашнее задание.

VI. Итог урока.
Учитель: The English know how to make tea and what it does for you. Seven cups of it will wake you up in the morning and nine cups will put you to sleep at night.
If you are hot, tea will cool you down, and if you are cold, it will warm you up.
If you take it in the middle of the morning, it will stimulate you for further work; if you drink it in the afternoon, it will relax you for further thought. Thank you very much for a cup of English tea. Good bye!
