2. Questions pupils to the pupil on duty. (Is it cloudy, windy today? What is the temperature like today? Etc.)

Teacher: Let's  have phonetic drill. I'd like to know who of you can pronounce the tongue-twisters. “What a big black cat, what a cat, what a cat”, “How much wood would a wood-chuck, chuck, if a wood –chuck-could-chuck-wood”.
I think Alla (Vasya) was the best to recite the tongue-twisters.

Teacher: You know that domestic science course for girls and handicrafts for boys are useful subjects at school. But you don’t get very much practice at school. Housekeeping is the every day practice of domestic science at home. Is it right?
P: Yes, it is.  
T: And what is  – housekeeping?
Now let's remember our domestic duties.

And now I want you to choose from these domestic duties and say your's.

P1: I water our flowers and vegetables in the garden
P2: I feed and walk my dog.
P3: I help laying the table.
P4: I help with the washing up.
P5: I clean carpets and floor in our flat on Saturdays.
P6: I cook simple meals.

Etc.

T: I see that you help your parents in different ways. Domestic duties may take much of your time, but if the members of the family help, if each one has his special duties, keeping house won’t be so difficult.
Now look at the blackboard – there are subjects to talk. Think a bit and then express your own opinion.

1. Whether your family does repairing itself or whether you prefer to have it done by somebody else.
2. The advantages of washing-machines over washing with your own hands.
3. The work about the house that you do every day.
4. What’s  pleasant (unpleasant) about housework?

P1: Usually our family does repairing itself if it’s not difficult. It may be a broken table or a chair, then my father and brother do it. And as for me, I like to see, but it’s not very good.

P2: Well, as far as I am concerned, when my shoes are rather worn, I take them to the shoemaker’s and say that they need repairing.

P3: Everybody knows how pleasant and necessary it is to have clean clothes. I think even children can wash small things very nicely. It’s not very difficult, but if the family has one big washing, we use washing-machine. It’s great!!

P4: Yes, you are right. And if the weather is fine, it is good to hang the wet clothes out in the fresh air. They smell so pleasant when they are dry.

P5: Domestic duties take much of  my time. Every day I wash or sweep the floor in the kitchen, dust the furniture, make up my bed.

P6: Well, my granny lives in the country. And life there requires much more time and effort. Every day people have to chop wood and take water for cooking and washing, water their vegetable garden.

P7: I think it’s pleasant to feed and walk my dog, to water flowers, and after a meal and after you finish drinking tea, the cups and plates are washed and put away.

P8: Well, it’s unpleasant when our rooms are untidied, the clothes are dirty, shoes and bed are not in order.

T: Ok. Now let’s cheque your home task. I asked you to make up your own dialogue with such words as a pail, a brush, an alarm-clock and a bowl. Now take them, please!

Dialogue 1

– Shall I help you wash?
– Thanks, but I’d rather do it myself.
– As you like. It’s a pity. I can’t  help you or shall I try?
– Oh, no. Don’t bother.
– It’s not bother at all.

Dialogue 2

– Will you help me, please, my boy?
– What do you want me to do Mummy?
– Will you polish the floor today?
– Is it my turn?
– Yes, it is. Your brother did it last time.
– Oh, all right, then.

Dialogue 3

– Excuse me, could you help me please?!
– I’ll try. What do you want?
– Something wrong with my alarm-clock.
– Let me see… Sorry, but I can’t help you. You better get it repaired.

T: Ok. Children, what poem about work have we learnt lately?
P: A poem “One thing at a time”
T: Recite it, please.
T: And now I want you to recite your own Russian versions of this poem. Let’s compare them. I think that this poem is the best.
