Ход урока
Стадия вызова (Evocation)
Teacher: | Good morning, students. I hope you are fine today. Now I see you are
ready to start working. Today we are summing up our knowledge and skills on the topic
“The World of Traveling”. And what’s about the aim of our lesson? Look at the
screen. You can see some aims written on it. Please choose one of them we hadn’t used
before. Talk about why people like traveling. Learn new words / word combinations in order to practise your oral speech on the topic “The World of Traveling”. Discuss all the advantages and disadvantages of different means of transportation for traveling. Revise the material on the topic “The World of Traveling”. |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | Today we are going to talk about tourism and tourist problems. It will be the subject of today’s discussion. We should revise the material on the topic and discuss all the advantages and disadvantages of different kinds of traveling. Let’s read the quotation by St. Augustine. “The world is the great book, of which they, who never stir from home, read only a page”. You agree with these words, don’t you? |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | By the way, do you like traveling? But why do people travel? Look at this scheme and try to complete it. OK. Let’s take the word “traveling” and create some associations to this word. |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | I see you have different associations to this word. Why? |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | Yes. You have different experience of traveling. Talking about traveling, we, first of all, think about English-speaking countries. We have read the text about Canada. I hope you could comment on these pictures (12 slides). |
Pupils: | (Students use text 14 on pages 190-193 ) |
Teacher: | Would you like to visit Canada one day? Pretend, you had a rare chance to visit Canada last month but you refused to go there because of some reasons. Express your regret using these structures: |
Стадия осмысления: “Реализация смысла” (Realization of meaning)
Teacher: | You know people travel for pleasure, on business, some travel light and some take a lot of luggage. They choose various means of transportation. Everybody knows that different kinds of traveling have their own positive and negative aspects. Take paper №1 and find out advantages and disadvantages of traveling by plane, by train, by ship and by car; and mark them with the signs “+” and “-“. |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | Now check up your work. Sound advantages first, please. |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | Disadvantages, please. Could anyone add some more information? |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | Do the conclusion, please answering the question: “What does your choice of means of traveling depends on.” |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | OK. So our choice depends on its aims, our plans and financial possibilities. And now let’s speak about traveling abroad. I know some of you have already been abroad and have some experience. Now imaging that you are going to travel abroad to some country in the North or in the South. Choose the things which are necessary for your trip abroad. |
Teacher: | You may add some words if you need and prove your ideas. Please, take paper №3 with the place of your destination. Read the name of the country you are going to travel and the list of things that you need for your trip. |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | When the people travel they face different situations. Sometimes they may be unpredictable. Take paper №4 and act out the following situations (2 minutes for preparation). |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | I know some of you have already traveled abroad. Alexander was there a year ago and Valeria – about 2 weeks. She is full of emotions and is ready to share with her joy. She made a short presentation for us. Be ready to ask questions. |
Pupil: | I was so lucky to visit Paris, it was my old dream… |
Teacher: | Thank you very much. Now, your questions, please. |
Рефлексия (фаза суммирования и систематизации новой информации).
Teacher: | Now let’s try your best and answer the question “What is travelling for?” You can use paper №5 and find the answer. |
Pupils: | |
Teacher: | For summing up I offer you to make up cinquains about
travelling. It’s the kind of poem consisting of 5 lines: a general word ------------------------------- Travelling two adjectives on the topic--------------------exciting, romantic three verbs------------------------------------to enjoy, to relax, to sunbathe the main idea of your poem-------------------The best way to escape from boredom! A synonym of the general word----------- journey. |
IV. Домашнее задание. | |
Teacher: | At home I want you to answer the questions of the Quiz “Are you a
Thrill-Seeker?” Take paper № 6. Our programme is over. I like your work at the lesson and give you only excellent and good marks. You have worked hard. Thank you for your good work. The lesson is over. |
