Цель: обобщить изученный материал по теме “Австралия”, повысить мотивацию к изучению английского языка.
Задачи:
обучающая – активизация употребления лексики по теме, углубление знаний о стране изучаемого языка – Австралии;
развивающая – развитие навыков монологической и диалогической речи, чтения и аудирования с пониманием общего содержания и выбором необходимой информации, расширение общего и страноведческого кругозора, развитие мышления, зрительной памяти и воображения;
воспитательная – воспитание культуры речи, интереса к географии, развитие социокультурной компетенции, толерантности и патриотизма.
Оборудование: карты мира, России, Австралии, символика стран изучаемого языка, плакаты основных правил произношения, вопросительных слов, предметные и тематические картинки, компьютерная презентация по теме урока, магнитофон.
Ход урока
1. Приветствие. T-Cl.
T: Hello, everyone, I’m glad to see you. How are you today?
2. Речевая зарядка. T-Cl.
T: Are you ready to answer my questions?
What is your name / surname? How old are you? What form are you in? Where are you from? Do you love your country? Do you know any poems about Russia?
P1: You may choose a friend and a brother
But you can never choose your native land!
You may choose everything in the world!
But you can never choose your Motherland!
P2: Красивый, щедрый, милый край
Полей, садов и дали синей;
Люби, цени, оберегай
Все, что зовем с тобой Россией!
T: And what English-speaking countries do you know? Can you name them? Who сan show them on the map? (Слайд 1)
3. Определение темы урока.
T: Our lesson is going to be unusual today: Geography in English. We are going to travel to Australia and listen to, read and speak about its geographical position and peculiarities. No wonder it is called “the upside down world” (слайд 2).
4. Фонетическая зарядка.
T: Let's practice our pronunciation first. T-Cl, P1, P2. (Учащиеся проговаривают за учителем имена собственные, вызывающие затруднения, слайд 3).
5. Аудирование текста “The unknown southern land”, page 286.
T: Revise the information about Australia, be ready to discuss it.
6. Контроль понимания прослушанного текста.
T: Now say “true”, “false” or “don’t know”. Correct the false statements (слайд 4).
7. Активизация употребления форм наречий в превосходной степени сравнения.
T: Fill in “least” or “most”. P1P2. (слайд 5)
8. Вопросно-ответная работа по содержанию прослушанного текста (слайды 6-23)
T: Answer the questions:
- Where is Australia situated?
- Is it a continent or an island?
- What bodies of water do wash the continent?
- In what ways is Australia divided?
- How many states are there in Australia?
- Name and show the Australian states. You may use the text.
- What is the leading industrial state?
- Why do people from the south spend the holidays in the northeast of Australia?
- What is Northern Territory famous for?
- In what places of Australia are fruit, wheat and potatoes grown?
- What city is Australia’s capital? Where is it?
- What other big cities do you know?
9. Монологическая речь с опорой на план (слайд 24).
T: Look at the map of Australia, look at the plan and say
- how many countries are situated on the island;
- what oceans it is washed by;
- where the three Australian deserts are situated;
- what Australian river is the most important;
- what city is the national capital;
- what other cities you know in Australia;
- what places you’d like to visit and why.
10. Пуза релаксации.
T: And now some new information about the history of Australia (P1, слайд 25)
Australia was discovered by Captain Cook in 1877. He liked to travel but he also liked his Motherland. Do you remember any poem about Great Britain? (P декламирует стих “My heart’s in the Highlands”, слайд 26)
T: Are you tired? Let’s move a little! (P рассказывает рифмовку, дети выполняют движения под нее)
Up, down, up, down,
This is the way we go to town.
Where, where, up in the air,
Close your eyes and we are here!
And do you remember the song “We are all friends together”? Let’s sing it!
11. Проверка домашнего задания.
T: Let’s check up your homework, ex. 5, p. 312. You were to complete the dialogue putting the sentences in their right places (слайд 27). Show me your versions.
And now listen to the tape and check yourself. Are you right? This is the true variant (слайд 28)
P1P2, read the dialogue! (Учащиеся читают и драматизируют диалог)
12. Работа с текстом “The most extraordinary country to explore”, p. 305.
T: Now let’s read the text to understand why Australia is an extraordinary country.
13. Ознакомительное и поисковое чтение.
T: And so what the text is about?
Look through the text and complete the sentences (P1P2, слайд 30)
Read out some sentences to describe / comment the slides. (Слайды 31-35)
14. Дифференцированное домашнее задание (слайды 36-37).
T: Open you record-books and write down your home assignment. You may choose: ex. 25, p. 309 (to describe Australia) or ex. 3, p. 312 (to write down 5 reasons why you’d like to visit Australia).
15. Подведение итогов.
T: What have we done at the lesson today? You are right, we’ve traveled to Australia and learned to describe the extraordinary land.
16. Окончание урока и оценивание.
T: You worked hard today and your marks are … .
Well done! We’ll go on discussing Australia at our next lesson (слайд 38).
P.S. If you have some spare time left, use the task about the most famous Australian actor (слайд 39-40).
His name is the first three letters of the capital of the state Victoria, his surname is the name of one of the Australian deserts. Who is the actor? (Mel Gibson).
Another extra-task is to describe your pupils’ Motherland, their hometown.
