Цель урока:
- познакомить учащихся 6 класса с Британскими островами, США, Новой Зеландией, Австралией. Дать понятие об этих государствах и их достопримечательностях.
- продолжить работу над темой "Артикли в английском языке", временами двух групп (The Present Simple, the Present Progressive), переводом предложений с английского языка на русский. Продолжить работу с упражнениями на тему "Артикли в английском языке".
Задачи:
1) развивать интерес к государствам, говорящим на английском языке;
2) познакомить с достопримечательностями Великобритании (Австралии);
3) продолжить работу над темой "Артикли в английском языке";
4) отработать употребление the Present Simple, the Present Progressive в задании "Английские времена";
5) продолжить работу с устными упражнениями на артикли (Ю. Голицынский "Сборник упражнений").
Оборудование: доска, магниты, иллюстрации с изображением Лондона, Большого Бэна, Британского музея, р. Темзы, Парламента, достопримечательностей Америки, Новой Зеландии, Австралии.
Ход урока
I. Организационный момент, приветствие, сдача рапорта, уточнение домашней работы.
Good morning, children. I am very glad to see you. Who is on duty today? What day is it today? What date? Who is away? What is your homework for today?
Учащиеся сообщают домашнюю работу.
II. Сообщение темы урока.
Today we shall speak about the British Isles, the United States of America, New Zealand and Australia. We shall practice in reading and continue to work with different exercises.
Now, look at the map of the world. Here are the British Isles. Kate, tell us about them, looking at the map of the world.

The British Isles.
The British Isles are a group of islands lying off the north-west coast of the continent of Europe. The largest islands are Great Britain and Ireland. Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. Ireland consists of Northern Ireland and the Irish republic. London is the capital of England. It is a political and cultural centre. There are many interesting places in London: Big Ben, the Thames, the British museum, the London Zoo and many other interesting places.

1. "London".
London is the capital of England. It stands on the Thames. It is a political and cultural centre. It is a business centre. It is a great port.
The population of London is about 8 million people. There are many interesting places in London: Big Ben, the Thames, the Parliament, the British museum, the Hyde Park and many other interesting places.
2. "Big Ben".
Big Ben is the Clock Tower of the Parliament, which strikes the time. It is very beautiful.
3. "The British museum".
The British museum is another interesting place in London. It was built in 1759. It is a history museum and it is very interesting. The people of London come there every day to look at the interesting things in the museum. The Londoners are proud of this interesting place.
4. "The Thames".
The Thames is not a long river. It is 330 kilometres long. There are many bridges on the Thames. This river is very beautiful and the people like it very much.
5. "The Parliament".
The English Parliament consists of two houses: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The Parliament makes the laws of the country and serves to the interests of the capitalists.
6. "The Hyde Park".
There are many parks in London. The people of London like to have a rest there. They sit in the sun, listen to music or go to the London Zoo. The Hyde Park is the most beautiful park in London.
7. "The London Zoo".
The London Zoo is one of the interesting places in London. There are many birds and animals at the Zoo. The people like to go to the London Zoo very much. It is one of the biggest Zoos in the world.
III. Now, look at the map of the world again. Here is America. Who can tell us a few words about the United States of America?

The USA is situated in the central part of the North American continent. It is washed by the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans. The capital of America is Washington. It is a business centre of America. There are many monuments in Washington. New York is the largest city and port in the USA. New York is the town of contrasts. There are many slums in New York.
IV. You know that New Zealand and Australia are English speaking countries. They are very far from Britain, but they are not very far from each other. Now I want to listen to everything about New Zealand and Australia. Who wants to tell us about the geographical position of New Zealand and Australia?

New Zealand is not very far from Australia, but it is very far from Britain. New Zealand is an English speaking country.The capital of New Zealand is Wellington. It is a political and cultural centre. It is an administrative centre. There are many trees and flowers in Wellington. This town is very beautiful.

If you look at the map of the world you will see that Australia is the 5th continent. It is the smallest continent and the largest island on the map. Australia is an English speaking country. Australia is very far from Britain. January is the hottest summer month and June is the coldest winter month in Australia. The capital of Australia is Canberra. It is a political and cultural centre. There are many interesting places in Canberra.
