Задачи урока:

  1. Развивать навыки коммуникативной компетенции учащихся в чтении, переводе, аудировании, монологической и диалогической речи.
  2. Активизировать употребление лексики по теме, расширить словарный запас.
  3. Способствовать ознакомлению с иноязычной культурой и расширению кругозора учащихся средствами иностранного языка.
  4. Прививать любовь к  родине.

Оборудование:

  1. Картины с видами городов;
  2. Карточки с заданиями;
  3. Магнитофон;
  4. Буклеты о различных городах.
  5. Экран и проектор (при возможности)

ХОД УРОКА

1. Оргмомент

Приветствие учителя и учащихся.

2. Фонзарядка

Повторение рифмовки о погоде:

I wonder whether the weather in the North
Is worse than the weather in the South.

Затем учащиеся повторяют рифмовку несколько раз, убыстряя темп.

3. T: I think it’s nice to go sightseeing in any weather. Today we are going to speak about some great cities and we’ll visit a lot of places of interest there.
The names of the cities we are going to speak about are written on the blackboard but the letters are in disorder. Guess the names of these cities.

4. T: We spoke about these cities at our lessons and you know much about them. Now I’d like you to play the game «Do you know these great cities? ». On the blackboard you can see the numbers from 1 to 14. You’ll call out the number and I’ll read the question and the options. Your task is to choose the right option. Each question has its price. There will be two teams.

6. I know that some of you received postcards with the descriptions of different cities yesterday. But people who sent them forgot to write the names of the cities. R1 – P6, Will you read the postcards? The others will guess the cities.

– This city is very big. It’s a seaport. There are very tall buildings here which are called sky-scrapers. Many businessmen make money in this city. (New York)
– This city is very nice. It is two thousand years old. It is on the river and great riverside docks make this city one of the three largest ports in the world. (London)
– This city is 56 kilometres away from the sea. But it is the third largest port in its country. For a long time it was the centre of the cotton textile trade in the whole world. (Manchester)
– There are a lot of students in this city because a famous university is situated here. According to an old tradition the students wear black and dark blue clothes. Many great men have studied in this city. (Cambridge)
– This city lies on seven hills. The highest hill is tree hundred metres above the sea. In the old part of the town the streets are narrow. In the modern town which lies at the foot of the hills the streets are straight and well-planned. (Edinburgh)
– This is a very nice city. The houses are not very high. It is difficult to find a park or a square without a monument or a memorial. There are no factories in this city. (Washington)

7. T: Each city has its own sights. On the blackboard you can see some cards with the names of the places of interest of different cities but they are cut into pieces and the pieces are mixed. Your task is to match the parts of the words.

The key answer: St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Tsar Cannon, the Library of Congress, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the Kremlin.

8. T: Where are St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace? What other London’s sights do you know? S1, tell us about London and its places of interest, please. (рассказ ученика)

9. T: Where can you find the Library of Congress? What else can you find in Washington? S2, will you tell us about Washington, please? (Рассказ ученика)

10. T: Look at the chain of words on the blackboard. Which sight is different here?

St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the Empire State Building, Trafalgar Square.

S: The Empire State Building is different here because it’s in New York and the other sights are in London.
T: What else can a tourist see in New York?

11. T: It’s very interesting to listen to your stories about these cities. In Russia we have as beautiful cities and towns as in Great Britain and the USA, Moscow, for example. I’d like you to make up short dialogues on two situations.

№ 1 You are at a tourist information office. You’d like to get some information about Moscow’s most famous sights.
№ 2 You’d like your friend to go sightseeing with you. Discuss some points of your tour.

Учащимся даётся 2-3 минуты на подготовку диалогов.

12. T: Thank you, boys and girls! It goes without saying, all cities we’ve spoken about today, are very beautiful. At the end of our lesson I want you to solve the crossword puzzle.

1) Moscow began with it.
2) It was a fortress, a royal residence and a prison. Now it’s a museum.
3) London stands on this river.
4) It is the highest building in Washington.
5) It’s a round square in the centre of London.
6) The admiral whose statue you can see on the column in Trafalgar Square.
7) The river on which Washington stands.
8)   It’s the nickname of the Washington Monument.
9)   He was the first American president.
10) This river gave its name to the capital of Russia.

13. T: It’s nice to go to other countries and to see a lot of different cities. But nevertheless people miss their native countries when they are away. There are a lot of proverbs about love for Motherland. Let’s remember some of them. Read them aloud and give the Russian equivalents.

  • Dry bread at home is better than roast meat abroad. – Дома и солома съедома./ Своя земля и в горсти мила.
  • East or West, home is best. – В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше.
  • There is no place like home. – Нет места лучше родного дома./В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше.

14. Звучит песня о России. На фоне музыки подводятся итоги урока.
