I Введение темы.

Today we are talking about the danger of smoking. The fact that there are special No Tobacco Days in many countries of the world shows how dangerous smoking is.

No Smoking Day is an annual health awareness day in the United Kingdom that is intended to help smokers who want to give up smoking. The first No Smoking Day was in March of 1984 and now takes place on the second Wednesday in March.

World No Tobacco Day has been observed around the world since 1987. Every year it is celebrated on May 31. It draws global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to its negative health effects. The day aims to reduce the 5.4 million yearly deaths from tobacco related health problems.

Listen to the tape twice and answer the questions.

1. How many chemicals does tobacco smoke contain?  (4000, some of them are harmful, others are deadly)
   
2. Which of them are the most dangerous chemicals? (tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide)
   
3. What is one of the major effects of nicotine?  (it increases heart rate and blood pressure)
   
4. Why do smokers` blood carry carbon monoxide, not oxygen? (because red blood cells absorb carbon monoxide more easily than oxygen)
   
5. What is the effect of it? (it`s difficult to breathe as the heart has to work harder to pump less oxygen around the body.)

Now have a look at the screen and answer another question.

In our country the anti-smoking law is being discussed now. People have different opinions of the problem.  Imagine you are discussing this problem in a TV talk show. What would you say if you were a mother of two children, a barman, a teacher, a doctor, a cigarette manufacturer, a smoker, a non-smoker.
