T: today we are going to summarize the information about the USA. You will have a chance to demonstrate your deep knowledge about this country. Once again we are going to speak about its geographical poison, its people and political structure, about famous American presidents and about the history of the country.

T:

1) Who is the President of the USA now?
2) Who was the previous president of the USA?
3) Who was the first American president?
4) What is the official residence of the American presidents?

T: Now let’s do a phonetic drill.

You know that the Americans love and proud of their Motherland. They enjoy patriotic songs. We are going to sing the official song of the USA “America, the Beautiful”. But first of all, please, repeat the word after me.

T: Now let’s check your knowledge about the US government and about the US Constitution. First of all, answer my question, please:

Why can the US government be compared with a tree?

T: Now, let’s speak about the US Congress.

Look at the screen, please, and answer the questions.

• What does the word “congress” mean?
• What does the Congress do?
• Where does it meet?
• What are its two parts?
• What do you remember about the Senate and senators?
• What do you remember about the House of Representatives and congressmen?

T: Use the questions on the screen as a plan to speak about the US Congress, please.

T: The next branch of the US government is the president and his helpers.

Look at the screen and answer the questions?

• What does the President do?
• Who helps the President?
• Who can become the President?
• How long can one be the President?
• When do people vote for their President

T: Now, get ready to speak about the President and his helpers. Use questions as a plan, please.

T: The last branch of the US government is the Supreme Court.

“Equal justice under law” says the inscription on the building of the Supreme Court.

Now look at the screen once again and answer the questions.

• What does the Supreme Court do?
• How many judges are there in the Supreme Court?
• How long do the judges work in the Court?

T: What can you say about the Court add as more details as you can.

T: The Constitution is the highest law in the USA which describes the powers of the national government and the powers of the state governments.

Speak about it using the given outline on the screen.

T: I think that you are tired a little, so let’s have a break and play a Quiz game.

T: We are going to speak about the American Presidents. They have always been the most important people in the USA. Several lessons ago we read about the two greatest American presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. You have learnt a lot of interesting facts about their lives.

What features of their characters helped them to become presidents?

Let’s remember their biography.

At the beginning of the 19th century women in America did not have equal rights with men. They did not have the right to speak in public, to vote. They were not allowed to study at most colleges. In most states married women could not own land or houses. Two women Elizabeth Stanton and Lucretia Mott decided to meet with other women to try to change laws and customs. In 1848 women from all over the country met to discuss women's rights. After their meeting where all men and women were declared equal, women began publicly speak about their rights, the right to own and sell property, to get education, to work at any job or in any profession, to vote; in fact to be equal with men.

Many years passed before women began to receive these rights. Many women understood they had to work together for the rights of all people, be they black or white, men or women, slaves or free.
