Цели:
- практиковать учащихся в аудировании, чтении, в диалогической речи, в пересказе;
- тренировать преобразование прямой речи в косвенную;
- развивать навыки культуры общения.
Оборудование: Аудиозапись, карточки, грамматические таблицы, телефон, компьютер, проектор.

Ход урока
1. Приветствие. Сообщение темы урока.
“I’m very glad to see you. I hope you will be working hard during the lesson.
Today we shall have a talk about traveling and our grammar theme is “Reported speech”.
2. Фонетическая зарядка
a) Teacher: People like to travel. They travel (in order) to make their life more interesting. Let’s read some quotations of famous people:
- He that travels far knows much. John Clarke (1609-1676)
- Traveling is one way of lengthening life. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
- If an ass goes traveling, he will not come home a horse. Thomas Fuller (1608-1661)
b) Teacher: From the ancient times people thought about the meaning of life:
- Please, listen to the poem “Leisure” by W.H.Davies (аудиозапись ).
- Who will recite this poem?
- What’s the poem about? (пересказ в косвенной речи)
3. Употребление косвенной речи на этапе тренировки и закрепления.
1) Let’s read the words you’ll have to change in reported speech in the past.
Таблица обстоятельств времени, места:
Now – then yesterday – the day before Here – there next week – the following week This/ these – that/ those last week – the previous week Today – that day last year – the year before Tomorrow – the following day
2) The following verbs will make your speech more beautiful:
To admit – признавать to promise - обещать To complain – жаловаться to remind - напомнить To decide – решить to reply - ответить To deny – отрицать to warn - предупредить To explain – объяснять to think – думать, полагать.
3) Работа в парах по карточкам (work in pairs):

5) Change the following statements in reported speech (на экране):

14. She said to her son,” Don’t forget the keys!”
6) At home you read the text “American Tourist in England.”:
He was an American in London and had hired a guide to show him the city. “How long did it take you to build this house?” he asked his guide when he saw a large hotel building. “About six months,” answered the guide.
“Six months!” exclaimed the American, “it doesn’t take us longer than six weeks to put up a building like that in New York.” They passed an office building which was quite new.
“And how long did it take you to build that?”
“About four weeks,” answered the guide.
“Four weeks!” said the American. “In New York we can build a place like that in four days.” In dead silence they approached the Houses of Parliament. “Well, that’s not a bad looking place. How long did it take to build it?”
“Well, you may not believe me,” answered the guide, “but this building was not there when I crossed the bridge last night.”
- Make up some questions to the text, please (самостоятельно).
- Who will answer the classmates’ questions? (Ученик у доски отвечает на вопросы одноклассников.)
- Let’s try to retell it in reported speech (рассказывают 2 – 3 ученика).
4. When people are going to travel they are always interested in what the weather is like.
- Listen to some dialogues and try to retell them in reported speech (инсценировка и пересказ):

– Hi, Betty. This is Tim. I’m calling from Chicago.
- From Chicago? What are you doing in Chicago?
- I’m on vocation.
- How’s the weather in Chicago? Is it sunny?
- No, it isn’t. It’s cloudy.
- Is it hot?
- No, it‘s very cold.
- Are you having a good time?
- No, I’m not. I’m having a horrible time because the weather is so terrible.
- Too bad, I’m sorry to hear that.
2)
- Hi, Tom. This is Louise. I’m calling from Los Angeles.
- From Los Angeles? What are you doing in Los Angeles?
- I’m on vocation.
- How‘s the weather there? Is it cloudy?
- No, it isn’t. It’s sunny.
- Is it hot?
- Yes, very.
- Are you having a good time?
- No, I’m not; I’m having a terrible time. The weather is too hot.
- I’m so sorry to hear that.
3)
-Hi, Bill. This is Kate. I’m calling from Switzerland.
- From Switzerland? What are you doing in Switzerland? Are you on vocation?
- Yes, I’m on vocation.
- How’s the weather? Is it snowing?
-Yes, it’s snowing here. I’m skiing every day.
- I’m glad to hear that. I hope you have a good time.

- What do you mean?
- It’s not cooked.
- Yes, it is.
- No, it isn’t.
- Look, that’s how we always serve it.
- Well, I don’t want it. And I won’t pay.

5. Listen to the dialogue “How Joey spends his free time”, read it in pairs and be ready to retell it in the reported speech for the next lesson (распечатка):
Sasha: How do you spend your free time? What are your hobbies?
Joey: My favorite hobby is stamp collecting. And I like all sports, especially baseball, football, and basketball. I also like to train my dog, ride my bike, and go roller- skating in Central Park.
Sasha: Where is Central Park?
Joey: It’s right in the center of New York City. It’s beautiful. We’ll go there tomorrow. Do you like baseball?
Sasha: Yes, but I’ve never played it.
Joey: We’ll go to the baseball game while you are here. There is so much to do here. Can you stay here all week?
Sasha: I’ll call the Garretts and see if I can stay here longer.
Joey: Please say “hello” to them for me.
