Objectives: by the end of the progression the students will be able to discuss ecological problems and speak on a weather forecast.

I. Brain-storming.

Fill in the gaps in the spidergram. Think what the word “nature” means for you.

II. Drilling “if/when” clauses.

a). Act out the dialogue. Change the roles.

A: What will we do if they forecast a rainstorm on Sunday?

B: We’ll stay at home, I think.

A: What will we do if they forecast a bright, warm day?

B: We’ll go the country, I think.

b). Go on talking on the pattern. Don’t forget to change the roles.

A: What will you do if the grove near your village is piled with rubbish?

A: What will you do if the river nearby is in a mess?

A: What will you do if the schoolyard is full of bits of glass, paper and plastic?

III. Look through the chart. Choose the right definitions and make up short dialogues on the pattern. Act them out in pairs.

Pollution: 1) dirty water, air and atmosphere;

2) making water, air, atmosphere dirty and dangerous for people and animals to live in;

3) people who make water, air and atmosphere dirty and dangerous.

3) something that we do to prevent air and water pollution.

Ecology: 1) natural balance between plants, animals, people and their environment;

2) plants growing in some area;

3) part of medicine that helps people to lead a healthy life.

Greenhouse effect: 1) a building in a garden or park which has glass walls and a glass roof in which you grow plants;

2) a salad made mainly with green vegetables;

3) the problem of temperature rise in the Earth’s atmosphere.

IV. You had an ecology class yesterday where you discussed what people should do to keep fit.

Now make up a cued dialogue on the basis of the series of cues:

You know that a lot of animals are endangered nowadays. Pupil “A”, remember such an animal but keep secret.

All the class will guess the secret information. Ask pupil “A”questions about the animal.

VI. Role – play.

Read your card attentively, follow the instructions and make the talk.

Your friend calls you. Ask him/her about it.

Remember: your mum won’t let you go to the beach if the weather is bad. (You are to discuss the problem with your friend.)

You know that the weather on Sunday will be wonderful. But you don’t know what to do and where to go.

You call your friend and ask what he/she is going to do.
