  5. listening (самопроверка по теме);
  6. jigsaw-reading (проверка понимания прочитанного);
  7. results and home task

1. Warming up (речевая зарядка) -3 minutes

Teacher: Good morning, friends! Oh, I see that you are well-tempered today! You must have a good breakfast! Is it your favorite meal?

T: Let’s warm up a little. What do you think of when you hear these word combinations?

Favorite meals, holiday meals, healthy meals, unhealthy meals, children meals, school meals, Russian meals, English meals.

2. Lead in (введение в сюжет урока, определение задач)-2 minutes

T: Do you realize the theme and the aim of our lesson? What are they?

T: Yes, we’ll speak about English meals, practice in reading and listening.

3. Pair work (взаимопроверка по теме урока) -10 minutes

T: Take your activity sheets and answer the questions.

  1. What is the first English meal?
  2. Does English lunch look like our dinner?
  3. When do English have dinner in reality?
  4. What is called “jacket potatoes”?
  5. What are the most favorite English accompaniments?
  6. What do they drink at dinner and after it?

T: Change your sheets with your partner and check up each other. Look at the blackboard if necessary Put the marks into your mark sheets.

4. Group work (выступление с мини-сообщениями)-7 minutes

T: Work in groups. Who wants to tell us about English breakfast (dinner, lunch, favorite English meals)? Make groups according to your reports. Tell your partners about …and answer three questions asked by them. Put the marks please.

5. Listening (самопроверка по теме) - 5 minutes

T: Look at your activity sheets and at the blackboard. Listen to the texts about English meals and write down the number of each text under its name in your sheets.

  1. It leaves you hungry and frustrated. If you are doing something you will have to apologize for having a short break and hurry to any cafe to buy something eatable.
  2. I still remember my horror when I was offered to eat potatoes with skin, or ox-tail with jam and French cheeses with malt and bananas with rum for desert.
  3. It’s not a social event, which means you can have it on your lap while reading a newspaper and nobody is nagging you about your manners.
  4. It is a social event. Everybody has to be in time and stay there until everybody has finished eating. Every moment and a gesture is a matter of etiquette.
  5. I also had a great problem with eating vegetables like lettuce, onions, beans, a dozen varieties of salad, spinach, boiled carrots. All these things are unfortunately favorite in England.

Look at the blackboard and compare your answers with those on the poster. Check up yourselves and if your answer is the same put one point under the number if not, put zero. Count the points and put the mark

Text № 1

Hello. My name is John Snedden. I am an owner of Rockland’s Restaurant in Washington, D.C. Rockland’s is a barbecuing and grilling restaurant. Barbecue is a method of cooking using wood or hardwood charcoal. This method was used in the United States before gas and electricity were available. We continue to use this traditional method at Rockland’s. The origin of barbecue is in the southern part of the United States, but now it is gaining popularity throughout the whole country.

Every year Rockland’s participates in Washington’s Food Fair, when restaurants and cafes set up food booths and give out samples of their food for free. We offer barbecued pork ribs, baby back ribs, barbecued chicken, different sandwiches and salads to our customers. If you have the chance, please stop at our booth and try our barbecue – you’ll love it!

Text № 2

Hi, my name is Rita and I’m the owner of the Manhattan Bagel Store in Atlanta, Georgia. Bagels are made from flour, water, salt, yeast, and a little bit of sugar. You can add any other ingredients you’d like, such as raisins or blueberries. Bagels are boiled and then baked in an oven. The perfect bagel is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

Bagels were brought to the United States by Jewish immigrants and were eaten mainly in Manhattan, New York. But when the Jewish immigrants began moving to other parts of the United States, they took the bagel with them. Now the bagel is very popular all over the country.

Bagels are very good for you. They are fat and cholesterol free. Cinnamon raisin bagels and bagels with cream cheese are very tasty. I would like you to try our bagel. Please come visit our booth at Atlanta’s Food Fair.
