Lots of people all over the world look forward to a number of holidays each yeas. So do we. First of all, most holidays are our days-off and days of enjoyment. While having holidays we enjoy various things: singing, dancing, eating, visiting friends and relatives, playing, walking and etc ...

By the way, who knows “the origin of the word “holiday”.

Teacher: How can holidays be characterized”.

Pupil: Holidays can be divided in to political, patriotic, religious and secular.

Teacher: What do political and patriotic holidays depend on?

Pupil: They depend on the history of the country and its important events and dates.

Good of you. Thank you for your good (perfect) answers.

Pupil 2: They come from the Bible.

Teacher: What is Christmas associated with?

Pupils: With presents, with singing carols, Christmas tree and etc.

Teacher: Well done. Now, I’m sure you can tell us smth about this joyous holiday. Retelling according to the scheme.

Pupil:

Teacher: Thanks for story. It was interesting enough.

IV. Next Wednesday people will celebrate the Catholic Christmas. We’ve also learned the song devoted to Jesus Christ’s birth singing in chorus to music.

Mary’s boychild Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day
A man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day
Sometime ago in Bethlehem
So the holy Bible says
Mary’s boychild Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day
Hope now here the Angel said
A king was born to day
A man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day.
O.K. your singing was wonderful.

V. As you see, there are lots of traditions, customs and holidays observed by people of different nationalities. Here you can see some illustrations to some of the holiday and tradition. Now you are to make short reports about them. Choose the picture and tell about this or that holiday in brief.

Pupils make up short stories with the help of the picture.

VI. As we live in the republic of Bashkortostan we also observe muslim holidays and traditions. Some of them we’ve already revised. But except these ones there are family holidays and traditions. They: the birth of a baby, wedding. One of the most exciting is a wedding. Today we have a quest. This is an old man, as old as the hills and he remembers the days of his youth, when he was going to marry and how it happened Listen to him very carefully and at the end of his report you may ask him any questions.

Pupil: Tells about the wedding (Guding practice).

Teacher: Thank you very much for your story. It was exciting.

VII. Now, look at the blackboard. Here you can see two crosswords. Let’s divide into two teams and solve them. The team which will solve the crossword first will be the winner.
