На экране статуя счастливого принца.
Голос за кадром: High above the city, on a tall column, stood the statue the statue of the Happy Prince. He was gilded all over with thin leaves of fine gold, for eyes he had two bright sapphires, and a large ruby shone jn his sword-hilt. He was very much admired indeed.
С одной стороны сцены проходят члены городского совета: (2 чел)
- He is as beautiful as a weathercock.
- Only not so useful.
C другой стороны сцены мама успокаивает плачущего ребенка: (2 чел.)
- Why can’t you be like the Happy Prince? The Happy Prince never dreams of crying for anything.
Угрюмый разочарованный человек:
- I am glad there is someone in the world who is quite happy.
Дети из школы для бедных и учитель математики: (3 чел.)
Дети : He looks like an angel.
Учитель: How do you know? Have you ever seen one?
Дети : Ah, but we have, in our dreams.
Голос за кадром: One night there flew over the city a little Swallow. Her friends had gone to Egypt 6 weeks before, but she stayed behind.
Ласточка (грациозно бегает по периметру сцены, заглядывая в уголки, останавливается у края сцены)
- Where shall I put up? I hope the town has made preparations.
Сцена 2
Ласточка пристраивается у ног Счастливого Принца.
- I have a golden bedroom.
На экране чистое звездное небо.
- What a strange thing, there is not a single cloud in the sky, the stars are bright, and yet it is raining. The climate in England is really dreadful. (еще одна капля падает на ладонь ласточки) What is the use of a statue if it cannot protect from the rain? I must look for another place.
Ласточка смотрит на принца, по лицу которого текут слёзы.
Swallow- Who are you?
The Happy Prince - I am the Happy Prince.
Swallow- Why are you crying then?
The Happy Prince - When I was alive and had a human heart I didn’t know what tears were. I lived in the Palace, where sorrow is not allowed to enter. Everything about me was so beautiful. They called me the Happy Prince and happy indeed I was, if pleasure be happiness. So I lived and so I died. And they set me up here, so high that I can see all the ugliness and misery of the city. Though my heart is made of lead I cannot choose but cry.
The Happy Prince Far away in a little street there is a poor house. The window is open and I can see a woman seated at the table. She is embroidering flowers on a dress for Queen’s maid to wear at the next Court-ball. Her little son is lying ill and asking for oranges, but mother has nothing to give him but river water. Swallow, Little Swallow, bring her the ruby of my sword-hilt. My feet are fastened and I cannot move.
Swallow – But I am waited for in Egypt. (озвученный ласточкой видеоролик о Египте – Нил, лотосы, гробницы, мумия – текст на стр.8 )
The Happy Prince Swallow, Little Swallow, stay with me for one night and be my messenger. The boy is so thirsty, and the mother is so sad.
Swallow I don’t think I like boys. They are often throwing stones at me. (вздыхает и смотрит на Принца) It is very cold here, but I will stay with you for one night and be your messenger.
Сцена 3
Ласточка кладет рубин на стол рядом с наперстком швеи. Подходит к мальчику и машет крылом над его головой.
The boy: How cool I feel. I must be getting better.
Ласточка возвращается к статуе С.П., садится у ног:
Swallow It is curious but I feel quite warm although it is so cold.
The Happy Prince That is because you have done a good action.
Сцена 4
На экране лунное ночное небо.
Swallow Have you any commissions for Egypt? I am just starting.
The Happy Prince Swallow, Little Swallow, stay with me one night longer.
Swallow I am waited for in Egypt. (озвученный ласточкой видеоролик о Египте – второй порог Нила, бегемот в зарослях, трон бога Мемнона, львы пьющие воду из реки – текст на стр. 11)
The Happy Prince Swallow, Little Swallow, far away across the city I see a young man in a garret. He is trying to finish a play for the Theatre, but he is too cold to write any more. There is no fire in the fire place and hunger had made him faint.
Swallow I will wait one night longer. Shall I take him another ruby?
The Happy Prince Alas! Ihave no ruby now, my eyes are all that I have left. They are made of rare sapphires. Pluck out one of them and take it to him. He will sell it to the jeweler, and buy firewood to finish his play.
Swallow Dear Prince, I cannot do that. (вытирает глаза от слез)
The Happy Prince Swallow, Swallow, Little Swallow, do as I tell you.
Ласточка берет сапфир и убегает.
Сцена 5
Студент сидит за столом, подпирая голову руками. Он не видит как ласточка кладет сапфир в горшочек с увядшими фиалками. Потом он поднимает голову и видит сверкающий камень.
- I am beginning to be appreciated. This is from some great admirer. Now I can finish my play.
Сцена 6
На экране вечернее небо. Ласточка возвращается к С.П.
Swallow I have come to bid you good bye
The Happy Prince Swallow, Swallow, Little Swallow, will you not stay with me one night longer?
Swallow - It is winter and the cold snow will soon be here. (озвученный видеоролик – пальмы, залитые солнцем, крокодилы, древние храмы…стр. 13)
- Dear Prince, I must leave you, but I will never forget you, and next spring I will bring you back two jewels in place of those you have given away. The ruby shall be redder than the red rose and the sapphire shall be as blue as the great sea.
The Happy Prince In the square below there stands a little match girl. She has let her matches fall in the gutter and they are all spoiled. Her father will beat her if she does not bring home some money, and she is crying. Pluck out my other eye and give it to her, and her father will not beat her.
Swallow I will stay with you one night longer, but I cannot pluck out your eye. You would be quite blind then.
The Happy Prince Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow, do as I tell you.
Ласточка берет последний сапфир, пробегает мимо девочки, продающей спички, и кладет его ей на ладонь.
Match girl: What a lovely piece of glass.
Девочка с радостью убегает.
Сцена 7
Ласточка возвращается к Принцу.
Swallow You are blind now, so I will stay with you.
The Happy Prince No, little Swallow, you must go away to Egypt.
Swallow I will stay with you.
Ласточка ложится у ног С.П. и засыпает
Видеоролик о Египте (сон Ласточки): Нил, ибисы, Сфинксы, караваны купцов, король лунных гор, поклоняющийся огромному кристаллу; огромный питон, спящий на пальме, пигмеи, сражающиеся с бабочками.
The Happy Prince Dear little Swallow, you tell me of marvelous things, but more marvelous than anything is the suffering of men and women. There is no Mystery so great as Misery. Fly over my city, little Swallow, and tell me what you see there.
Ласточка убегает.
Сцена 8
На экране красивые лондонские особняки, сумерки, темные улицы города. Бедно одетые дети равнодушно смотрят на экран. Дождь. Двое детей прижавшись друг к другу сидят под мостом:
Children: How hungry we are!
Watchman: You must not lie here.
Дети выходят из-под моста и идут под дождем, укрывая головы курточками.
Ласточка с отчаянием смотрит на них.
Сцена 9
Ласточка возвращается к Принцу.
Swallow I have seen little children. They are cold and hungry and have no shelter.
The Happy Prince I am covered with fine gold? You must take it off and give it to the poor. The living always think that gold can make them happy.
Ласточка снимает золотой плащ принца и уносит его детям. Дети радуются и танцуют.
Children: We have bread now!
Сцена 10
На экране падающий снег. Зима. Сосульки свисают с крыш домов. Люди одеты в меховые шубы.
Дети катаются на коньках.
Ласточка ёжится от холода, она уже не может летать. Принц в черном плаще.
Swallow Good bye, dear Prince, will you let me kiss your hand?
The Happy Prince I am glad that you are going to Egypt at last, little Swallow. You stayed too long here, but you must kiss me on the lips, for I love you.
Swallow It is not to Egypt that I am going. I am going to the house of Death. Death is the brother of Sleep, is he not?
Ласточка целует Принца в губы и падает у его ног.
Сцена 11
Члены городского совета идут мимо статуи Счастливого Принца и останавливаются с разочарованными лицами.
- How shabby indeed.
- The ruby has fallen out of his sword, his eyes are gone and he is golden no longer. In fact, he is little better than a beggar. And here is a dead bird at his feet.
- We must issue a proclamation that birds are not to be allowed to die here.
Чиновник с блокнотом записывает слова члена городского совета.
- As he is no longer beautiful, he is no longer useful. We must have another statue, of course, and it shoul be the statue of Myself.
Сцена 12
На экране горящая доменная печь. Сталевар держит в руке и удивленно смотрит на какой-то предмет .
- What a strange thing! This broken leaden heart will not melt in the furnace. We must throw it away.
Бросает сердце на кучу мусора, где уже лежит мертвая Ласточка.
Сцена 13
На экране райский сад, Бог и ангел.
God : Bring me the two most precious things in the city.
Ангел уходит и вскоре появляется вновь. Он держит в руке мертвую ласточку (муляж) и свинцовое сердце. Отдает Богу.
- You have rightly chosen. For in my garden of Paradise this little bird shall sing for evermore, and in my city of gold the Happy Prince shall praise me!
Появляются радостные Счастливый Принц и Ласточка. Принц кланяется Богу, а Ласточка прижимается к нему.
