- 1 ведущий: Good afternoon dear teachers and students of our school.
Welcome to our English meeting dedicated to the OG.
- 2 ведущий:We are very glad that the 22d OG were held in Russia and we are proud of our sportsmen who won 13 gold medals, 11 silver, 9 bronze and the total is 33 medals.
- 1 ведущий: We think that everybody not only in our country but all over the world watched these games.
- 2 ведущий: Yes, you are right; more than 3 billion people were involved.
That’s why our meeting is devoted to sport, to the OG.
- 1 ведущий: Mankind should be grateful to Pierre de Coubertin.
- 1 выступающий : Baron Pierre de Coubertin, was born in 1863 and he is credited with creating the modern Olympics. He was passionate about harnessing education and sport to improve society, and believed that reviving the ancient Greek tradition of Olympic Games would bring about such an improvement. He died of a stroke in 1937 and in accordance with his last wishes, the Baron was buried in Lausanne but his heart was interred in a monument at the ruins of Olympia.
- 2 ведущий: The OG united people from 5 continents.(ведущие)
- 2 выступающий : I am going to tell you about the Olympic flag. The five interlaced rings represent the five continents of the world. Blue represents Europe, black – Africa, red – America, yellow –Asia, green –Australia. The Olympic emblem is in the white background of the flag. White colours symbolize peace during the games.
- 3 выступающий : I think that it is interesting to learn about the principle of the OG which was determined by P. de C. in 1896. He said that the most important in the OG is not the victory but the participation and everybody knows that the Olympic motto is: citius – altius – fortius (swifter – higher – stronger).
- 4 выступающий : We shouldn’t forget about the OLYMPIC OATH. The Olympic Oath, instituted in 1920 and updated in 2000, is taken on behalf of all athletes by a member of the host team. While holding a corner of his national flag, the athlete proclaims from the rostrum
- Ведущие: We want you to be very attentive and take an active part in our activities. So, we start….
Учащиеся 11 класса разыгрывают сценку (1 сценка)
- Again an essay in English
- I think that it is one of the last compositions at school.
- I hope so
- And what should we write about? Do know the topic of the essay exactly?
- Yes, Olympic games!
- We have talked a lot about them both in English and Russian!
- Yes, I suppose that we know everything about them.
- How did you start writing your essay?
- I have started from the beginning! Listen! The story of the Olympic Games started….
2 сценка: Учащиеся 7 класса в античной одежде ведут беседу:
- Hello, Zeus! Why are you so sad???
- Again people started the war! And again they are fighting and trying to find out who is the best! I’m so tired of all these wars!
- How can we help people to live in peace? I am sure that it is impossible!
- I don’t think so. We can organize competitions where they will be able to show the physical qualities and evolution performances made by young people and good relations between people and we call them Olympic Games.
- You are right. People will be grateful to you for these competitions and they will glorify your name for ever!
- AGREE! Let the Olympic Games start!!!!
- Ведущие: The Greeks started the Olympic Games almost 3000 years ago in 776 BC. They were held nearly every four years for over a thousand years until they were stopped in 393 AD.
Сценка № 3 (8 класс об истории Олимпийских игр) – встречаются 2 ученика, один из них читает книгу с интересом…
OLYMPIC GAMES IN ANCIENT GREECE
- Hello, Nina
- Hello Oleg, what are reading?
- I’m reading about the history of the Olympic Games.
- Is it really interesting?
- Yes, indeed. Do you know that who competed in the Ancient Olympic Games?
- Certainly, only strong people!
- Not only, athletes had to be free men (not slaves) who spoke Greek. They had to be youthful or at least youthful looking.
- Did men and women take part in the competitions?
- No, athletes were supposed to be only men; however, there are records of at least one woman winning an event, probably as an owner in a chariot race.
- Where were the games held?
- The Olympic Games were held in Olympia. They were held there because the gods lived on Mount Olympus and the games were in honor of the king of the gods, Zeus.
- How were the winners awarded?
- They got olive branches for winning, but also became famous. Sometimes they received large sums of money from their home town.
- What events did the original Olympics have?
At first Olympics there was only a single event. It was called the stadion and was a running race that was about the length of the stadium, of 200 meters. More events were added over the next several Olympics. These events included more running races of different lengths, wrestling, chariot racing, boxing, and the pentathlon.
- But, some of the events had similar names to events we have today if I’m not mistaken
- Yes, you are right. But they had different rules. For example, boxing and wrestling
were very dangerous events with few rules. In boxing you could hit the opponent while they were down and the match didn’t stop until one fighter gave up or died.
I see, it is very interesting. Could you give me it later? (Ученики уходят со сцены).
Сценка № 4 (Пауза… Учащиеся 11 класса продолжают писать)

- Hi, girls, what are you doing?
- Writing about the OG, their history, mascots and so on.
- (учащиеся 9 класса) – We can help you! At our English lessons we have just learnt about mascots! Hey, guys, come here! (выходят еще ученики).
1 ученик - It is interesting that, originally, the only symbols of the Olympic Games were the emblem (?ve interlocking rings) and the Olympic ?ame. The idea of an Olympic mascot was officially approved at the 73rd Session of the International Olympic Committee which took place in Munich, Germany in summer 1972. According to the applicable amendments, the Olympic Games mascot is intended to promote the principles of Olympism and to popularize the particular Games.
2 ученик - We should mentioned that the mascot can be a person, an animal or a fictitious being, and it can reflects the cultural characteristics of the host country and symbolizes the values of the modern Olympic Movement. SCHUSS – was created for the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble (France). The Summer Games of the same year in Munich (Germany) had the DACHSHUND WALDI as the mascot. This is the way how the tradition of official Olympic mascots began.
3 ученик - The 1976 Olympic Winter Games were in Innsbruck (Austria). The Organizers dubbed these Games “the Games of Simplicity”. The chosen mascot – an OLYMPIC SNOWMAN – was supposed to represent this quality. RONI THE RACOON was chosen as the mascot for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid (USA). The human desire “to befriend animals and become closer to nature was symbolized by the mascot VUCKO THE LITTLE WOLF during the 1984 Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo (Yugoslavia). The POLAR BEARS HIDY and HOWDY were the first pair of mascots (according to their story they are brother and sister, and their names come from the word “hi”.) for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary (Canada):
4 ученик - The 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer (Norway): At the Games in Lillehammer the mascots were people for the first time: a BOY and a GIRL, HAKON and KRISTIN, brother and sister from Norwegian folklore. The 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano (Japan): The Snowlets, OWLETS SUKKI, NOKKI, LEKKI and TSUKKI, which symbolised wisdom and the four seasons of the year.
5 ученик - The 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City (USA): The mascots were a HARE, A COYOTE and a BEAR These characters also symbolised the Olympic motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius” (“Faster, higher, stronger”). The 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin (Italy): The SNOWBALL NEVE and ICE CUBE GLIZ, mascots for the Turin Games, were aimed at a young audience. Their main qualities included enthusiasm, passion for sport and care for the environment.
6 ученик - The 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver (Canada) had a group of mascots: QUATCHI and MIGA. An “unofficial” mascot was also created – Mukmuk, their so-called “sidekick”. And the last mascots following the tradition for the Olympic Games in Sochi were officially revealed three years before the opening ceremonies, i.e. in 2011. The official mascots of Sochi are a SNOW LEOPARD, a POLAR BEAR and a HARE.
