The goal of the lesson is to work under the topic “Sports and games”.
Tasks are:
- To revise words connected with the given topic;
- To activate reading and listening skills;
- To expand pupils’ knowledge according to the given topic.

Good morning, children! Today we’re going to have a game – lesson. Sit down according to your teams! You are to do my tasks. Each right answer is one point to your team. The team which gains more points will be the winner.
Are you ready for the game - lesson? Let’s see: who is the captain of the 1st team? - Lera is the captain and the name of the team is “Florida panthers”.
Who is the captain of the 2nd team? - Sasha is the captain and the name of the team is “Phoenix coyotes”.

So, dear pupils, before the game there is a warm-up minute. This is the poem “We can play”. Look at the screen, listen to the tape and repeat after the speaker. Try to learn this poem by heart. (см.папка – “аудио”) (презентация - слайд 2):

School is over – we can play
We can play the whole day.
Basketball and volleyball
And the boys can play football.
OK. Thank you very much.
II. The 1st task for the teams.
Pupils, you are to remember names of sports and games. Each word is one point.
(команды по очереди произносят названия видов спорта и игр).
The examples of the pupils’ answers: basketball, volleyball, table tennis, lawn tennis, skiing, skating, hockey, swimming, chess, football/soccer, cricket, softball, badminton, racing, boxing, rafting, diving, skydiving, dancing, gymnastics, weight-lifting, jumping, cycling.
So, now let’s sum up our knowledge – let’s watch the sports vocabulary and repeat the words after the speaker. (см.папку “видео”)
III. Will you stand up, please? I’ll throw you the ball, you’ll catch it and express your opinion. Repeat the statement if it is true. Disagree with it and correct the statement if it is false.
The examples of the statements: (презентация - слайды 5-6):
- You are swimming now. (I disagree with you. I am not swimming now)
- Children like to ski and skate very much. (I agree with you. Children like to ski and skate very much)
- Your brother went to the stadium yesterday. (I agree with you. My brother went to the stadium yesterday)
- You will take part in racing next week. (I agree with you. I shall take part in racing next week)
- You don’t like to play tennis. (I disagree with you. I like to play tennis)
- You mustn’t attend Physical Education lessons. (I disagree with you. I must attend Physical Education lessons)
IV. The 2nd task for the teams. Now look at the blackboard. You’ll will see the pictures there. These pictures will help you to do the crossword. You’ll have to remember the names of different things which are used in sports and games and write them down. Then you’ll be able to read the key word.

VI. OK, it’s time for the dialogues on the topic “Sports and games”.

- Well, what about sport? You look quite athletic...
- I used to be a good tennis player, but I gave it up when I broke my ankle last year.
- Oh, I really love tennis... Shall we have a game sometimes?
- Well, I'm really rusty. I'll have to get a bit of practice first.
- Don't be silly. We'll just have a friendly game.
- O.K. See you on Monday.
- O.K. Don't forget to bring your racket. We'll have a game after work.

- What's golf? I've heard much of the game but I don't know how it's played. Is it anything like tennis?
- Oh, no, it isn't. In general the game consists of hitting a hard little ball with a stick and then walking after it.
- Well, it's not very interesting, I think. Do you play golf?
- Yes, very often. It's a very interesting and exciting game and it requires great skill.

- Is football popular in the USA?
- Yes, very much, especially in autumn. It's played by almost every college and university in the country.
- What other games are also popular in the USA?
- Well, basketball. It's more popular here than in other countries. Basketball is played at schools, colleges and clubs. Many Americans prefer it to football because it's faster than football.
- I hear baseball is popular in the USA, isn't it.
- Of course, it is. Baseball is played in spring and in summer. It's even called the "national pastime ".
- I'd like to see a game of baseball.
- Good idea.

VIII. The 4th task for the teams. Pupils, you are to speak about sports. Look at the blackboard. (презентация - слайд 7):
These questions will help you:
- What makes people healthy?
- Is sport a very important thing in our life?
- Can sport help us to relax?

IX. The 5th task is to watch the video and answer the questions (см.папку “видео”- диалог “Sport”) (презентация - слайд 8):
What does the giraffe like to go in for? Ответ - The giraffe goes in for running.
What is the favourite sport of the elephant? Ответ - The elephant likes yoga and karate.
Who does the elephant do the karate with? Ответ - The elephant does karate with zebra.
What sport activities does the giraffe also like? Ответ - It likes playing basketball.
Does the elephant like basketball too? Ответ - No, it likes playing volleyball.
The 6th task for the teams. You can see some numbers there. You are to read the saying using the code.
