Задачи урока:

  1. Обобщение страноведческого материала, а также темы «Читаем с удовольствием».
  2. Воспитание уважительного отношения к другой культуре, и осознание своей культуры через контекст культуры англоязычных стран.
  3. Развитие умения читать с целью извлечения конкретной информации.
  4. Развитие способности к догадке, к сравнению и сопоставлению речевых единиц.

Оснащение урока: Фотографии, рисунки, информация в MS PowerPoint, мультимедийный проектор.

Ход урока

Teacher: Today we have unusual lesson. We are going to have a quiz " Do you know English-speaking countries?»Two teams are going to compete now. So, let’s start! Meet the first team! Meet the second team! Choose the captains and introduce your teams.

I. The captains’ competition

Each captain should answer in my questions. I’ll give you 5 questions.

5 questions for the first captain:

  1. What is the nickname of British flag? (Union Jack)
  2. What is the national Scottish costume called? (kilt)
  3. What is the nickname of a guest who comes on New Year’s morning first? (First Foot)
  4. What’s the color of London taxies? (black)
  5. Who can you see on the top of the column on Trafalgar Square in London? (Admiral Nelson)

5 questions for the second captain:

  1. Who lived in Sherwood Forest? (Robin Hood)
  2. What do many children usually say when they knock on their neighbours’ door on Halloween? (“Trick or Treat?”)
  3. What’s the color of double-deckers in London? (red)
  4. What is the nickname of the American flag? (Stars and Stripes)
  5. What person in London has the address 10, Downing Street? (British Prime Minister)

II. Proverbs and idioms

I’ll give you cards for each team. You should match the English proverbs with Russian equivalents. Команды получают два вида карточек, на которых представлены как английские пословицы и идиомы, так и их русские эквиваленты. Сначала одна команда по порядку зачитывает английские пословицы, а в это время другая команда должна найти русский эквивалент каждой из них. Затем – наоборот. За каждый правильный ответ – 1 очко. Выигрывает та команда, которая наберет больше очков.

III. The English Literature.

I’ll give you the card with the fragment of English literature and you should write down the author and the name of the book.

Командам зачитываются выдержки из литературных произведений на русском языке. По приведенным в них описаниям команды должны угадать литературного героя, назвать его и автора произведения.
