План урока.
I. Организационный момент.
II. Аудирование вступительного слова учителя:
Ecology is a science about nature and about relations of man with it. Practically, it is a science studying weather. We, human beings, keep our common house, our planet the EARTH, in a good state and how we use the gifts it gives us: water, air, land, plants, animals and minerals. Ecology is a science which studies the relationship between all forms of life on our planet with its environment.
The EARTH is polluted with all kinds of technological, agricultural, chemical, nuclear and other wastes. When air and water is dirty, we say it is polluted. We know that polluted air, land and water is harmful to plants, animals and people. Air pollution, smog, water pollution destroy Nature.
The ozone layer in the upper atmosphere protects the world from the sun’s harmful rays. The chemical used widely in aerosol cans, refrigerators and other products are destroying this precious layer.
If you throw a glass bottle on the ground it will pollute the Earth forever. Never throw glass bottles on the ground, you damage the Earth. Aluminium cans and plastic bottles last up to 500 years. If you throw an aluminium can on the ground, it will still pollute the Earth up to 500 years later. Tin cans last for 100 years. Small animals can get hurt on sharp cans or broken bottles.
Wild plants are being destroyed. 22 flower species extinct since records began, 317 are standing on the brink. Many people like to pick up wild flowers. But the problem is that they may all disappear.
Turn off the light when you leave the room and turn off the light in the flat you really do not need. Turn off the TV set or the stereo when you are not watching or listening. We should always turn off taps when we don’t need water any more.
III. Answer the questions to check the understanding of the text.

VII. Look at the slogans which pupils wrote:
DON’T POLLUTE THE ATMOSPHERE!
PROTECT ANIMALS!
SAVE WILD HABITAT!
USE LAND ONLY FOR FARMING!
STOP CUTTING DOWN TREES!
DON’T LET BIRDS, ANIMALS AND INSECTS DISAPPEAR!
SAVE WILD ANIMALS!
HELP ALL LIVING BEINGS!
VIII. Now listen to the letter which the EARTH is writing to the children:
MY DEAR CHILDREN!
I am dying and I want to take one last opportunity to tell you how much I love you and how much your actions have hurt me. I gave life to your parents and their parents. I provided you with the food you needed, with fresh water and with clean air to breathe. The rivers and seas are my life blood. You have clogged my arteries with your untreated sewage and with chemicals from your factories. This has killed so much of the sea life which was there for your benefit. You have been greedy. You have over fished and over hunted, putting at risk your food supplies.
I can no longer breathe because you have cut down so many of my life – giving trees. Without their oxygen we will all die, but you put profit before our lives and my tears have now turned to acid rain. My face is marked and scarred by your bombs and guns and my body is the burial ground for the victims of your wars.
IX. Some pupils have made reports as the answer to the letter of the EARTH.
Report 1. ANIMALS IN DANGER!!!
Perhaps the most famous rare animal is panda. Twenty years ago it was nearly extinct. Now its numbers are growing again. It even became a symbol for wild life conservation. But many other species have been less lucky than panda. By the year 2030 25% of all animals, birds, fish and insects may be extinct. Why is it happening? Well, there are three main reasons. The first is pollution. Millions of animals die every year because men have polluted their natural home or “HABITAT’’. A habitat contains everything a living thing needs: food, water, shelter, space light. Pollution and destruction change the balance of nature. Each species in a habitat wood jungle, marsh or forest needs and helps the rest. If one animal, bird or insect disappears, all the rest suffer, too. Because some plants and animals provide food for other animals.
Report 2. FOOD SAFETY
Food has become the source of anxiety to many people. Behind it lies a revolution in the way our food is now produced. The problem is that a vast range of chemicals have crept into our food. Our diet – the food we eat is not always healthy.
30 % of Americans and 25 % of Europeans are fat because they eat too much junk food: hamburgers, pop corn, pizza, chocolate. Why is junk food bad for us? The answer is simple. It contains too much sugar and fat. This is the reason why so many people die of heart diseases.
Finally there are “additives”– a group of chemicals which food factories use. They make food look better, last longer. The best recommendation is to stop eating processed foods. Instead there is a diet of fruit, vegetables, brown bread, fish and other “healthy food”. But even healthy food isn’t always healthy. People don’t just pollute the atmosphere. They pollute themselves too.
Report 3. THE EARTH DAY
APRIL, 22 is a special day around the world. On that day Inhabitants of the Earth celebrate the Earth Day. The Earth Day is a time when many people show that they care for our dear planet. They show concern about the threats the planet faces – destruction of the rain forest, holes in the ozone layer, the greenhouse effect, too much garbage, and all forms of nature and water pollution. It is a day for people to learn what they can do to preserve the planet EARTH. The first EARTH DAY was held many years ago, in April 1970.
