Teacher: Good morning! I’m glad to see you. Dear boys and girls, we are going to speak about Nature, ecological problems, how to save our planet. I think our life is very important. We live on the planet and there are a lot of people who think about the future of the planet. Some people take care of animals, others take care of birds, others are in charge of the forests. And we must be worried about nature too.
Teacher: look at these landscapes. The world we live in is really wonderful: blue seas, oceans and rivers, mountains, hills, fields and valleys. We live surrounded by this beauty. But the situation isn’t the same in different parts of our planet. Tell me please, what does the word “ecology” mean?
Pupil: The world “ecology’ came from Greek world which means “home”. The idea of home includes the whole planet of ours.
Teacher: You are right. And now our “home” – our planet is in danger. We should answer two main questions during our lesson:
- Is the situation really so dangerous?
- What can we do to protect the nature and to save our planet? And now tell me what environment problems are. (Учащиеся называют проблемы)
Pupil: The first problem is pollution nature, air, water, land. Land, air, water are important for plants, animals, birds, fish and people.
Pupil: It is rubbish problem. Every day we take rubbish out.
Pupil: It is killing forests, animals, fishes, birds, insects and plants.
Pupil: It is the nuclear power and the green house effect.
Pupil: I’m worried about the pollution of the air. About two hundred years ago, man lived in greater harmony with his environment because industry was still undeveloped. The air on our planet was pure and clean. Then people started building factories. The factories, powerstations, cars put a lot of waste into the air. Today the air is so polluted in some places, that it’s not always safe to breathe. Our modern industry throws out into atmosphere a lot of harmful gases. Polluted air is not only bad for people and animals, but for trees and other plants.
Pupil: I’m very concerned about the pollution of the water. Water is very important for life of the Earth. The seas, rivers and lakes are in danger. They are filled with poison: industrial and nuclear waste. In many places water is not drinkable. Fish die in such water. Some of our rivers are now empty of fish.
Pupil: I am very worried that all over the world the forests are disappearing. People cut the trees down because they need wood and paper or new places for farms and houses. This leaves fewer jungles, fields, forests for wildlife. Forests the size of Belgium are destroyed every year. It is an international disaster.
Pupil: For thousands of years the Earth has given support to all forms of life: human beings, animals, birds, fishes, insects and plants. But now human beings are killing our planet.
Pupil: Many animals and birds on the Earth are disappearing nowdays because man has polluted their natural homes. Many of them are in danger. Indian tigers and African elephants are among them.
Pupil: I want to tell you about elephants. They are wonderful, they can help men. Elephants need a lot of water. They need a lot of food. Elephants spend about 16 hours a day eating. Today many elephants in Africa are dying because they do not have enough food to eat. Hunters kill thousands of elephants every year for meat and for their trunks.
Pupil: Only several hundreds of rhinos are left in Asia. Hunters kill about 3 million of kangaroos every year. Over 40 thousands of monkeys are caught every year. Water pollution kills about 300 dolphins every day. A lot of dolphins are hurt by boats. About 30 sea turtles are caught into nets every day. Eight big cats are killed to make one fur coat.
Teacher: Now do you think we can improve our planet? How can you help to protect the environment.
Pupil: Pollution is very dangerous for people , wildlife and the environment. We live among litter and wastes which we have created ourselves. People don’t just pollute the environment. They pollute themselves with cigarettes, alcohol and junk food. These are some of the world’s serious environmental problems. What will happen, if we don’t try to solve these problems?
Teacher: What rules must you keep in the forest ?
Pupil: We mustn’t make a fire in the forests.
Pupil: We mustn’t damage trees. They clean the air. They give us paper. They are a home for birds and animals.
Pupil: We mustn’t kill birds. They kill pests.
Pupil: We mustn’t leave litter in the forest. We must take it home.
Pupil: We mustn’t leave glass and plastic bottles in the forest.
Teacher: Sometimes children break rules when they visit the countryside. What happens when rules are broken?
Baby trees are damaged.
Birds are disturbed.
Trees are painted.
The air is polluted.
The water is polluted.
The place isn’t cleaned up.
The countryside is cared for.
Litter is thrown away.
Animals are hurt.
The fire is left.
Teacher: And what about you, students? Do you behave youselves in the countryside the same way? What do you do at home to save the nature.
I never break trees when I go to the forest.
I always take litter home after a picnic.I never throw rubbish into the lakes and rivers.
I never catch small birds and animals.
I never paint the trees.
I never cut wild flowers.
I always leave the place clean when we hike.
I save energy and water at home.
Teacher: Now, pupils, let’s make the Code of Ecological Rules.
Code of Ecological Rules:
Keep the country tidy.
Protect animals and birds.
Respect the life and work of the countryside.
Grow flowers and trees.
Don’t cut wild flowers.
Don’t burn fires.
Don’t throw rubbish into rivers lakes and seas.
Take litter home after a picnic.
