Цель урока:
Расширение кругозора учащихся о городах:
- формирование и развитие поисково-исследовательской деятельности учащихся, т.е. поиск информации о достопримечательностях Лондона, Москвы и Санкт-Петербурга;
- совершенствование умения и навыков практического владения языком;
- обобщение материала по теме “Лондон и его достопримечательности”.
Задачи урока:
- Активизация тематической лексики в устной речи учащихся в диалогической и монологической форме в процессе развития иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции школьников.
- Формирование коммуникативных умений и речевых навыков, обеспечивающих устно-речевое общение в рамках заданной ситуации.
- Приобретение учащимися лингвострановедческих знаний.
- Развитие творческих способностей учащихся и умения работать в команде.
Оборудование урока:
- Компьютерная презентация (материалы презентации используются по ходу урока).
- Музыкальный материал в CD формате (“London Bridge is falling down”).
- Речевой материал: Student's Book, Biboletova M.Z. “Enjoy English” 5-6 forms.
Ход урока
Teacher: Good morning, dear boys and girls! As you probably know, people like travelling, they like visiting other countries and cities, they like admiring other cities’ sights because they are different and really very interesting. Today we’ll speak about one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Do these tasks and you will know the topic of our lesson.
1. Фонетическая разминка. Развитие лексических навыков.
Teacher: Let’s do phonetic drill and remember the English sounds.
Teacher: Read these words again and make up the word combinations with them.

Teacher: As you see the topic of our lesson is “London and its sights”.
2. Совершенствование навыков монологической речи по теме “Лондон”.
На доске даны ключевые слова для рассказа о Лондоне. Один учащийся читает факты из истории, а желающие ответить рассказывают о Лондоне и о некоторых его достопримечательностях. (Слайд 3)

London is the capital of Great Britain. It is a very old city. It was founded about two thousand years ago. London is one of the most famous and interesting cities in Europe. There are lots of interesting places to visit in London. There are a lot of popular museums, art galleries, cinemas, theatres and lovely parks in London. Hyde Park is the largest park. It is one of the most popular places of Londoners on hot summer days.

Teacher: Every country is proud of its traditions, places, events and habits. One of the Sunday British newspapers “The Observer” offered its selection of the 99 best items in Great Britain. Look and tell me what was included in this list and why? What is your opinion?
- Big Ben as it is the biggest clock bell in Britain. (Слайд 5)
- Buckingham Palace as the place where the Queen lives when she is in London. Many tourists can see here the Changing of the Guard. (Слайд 6)
- Piccadilly Circus as it is not a circus but a round square. (Слайд 7)
- Westminster Abbey as the coronation of English kings and queens takes place there. (Слайд 8)
- Madam Tussaud’s Museum as it is very interesting and many tourists take pictures next to famous people. (слайд 9)
- The Houses of Parliament as it is the place where the country’s leaders speak. (Слайд 10)
- St. Paul’s Cathedral as it is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Great Britain. (Слайд 11)
4. Проверка домашнего задания.
Teacher: The best way to learn about the city is to make a tour around it. I offer you to see all these places from our red double-decker bus (слайд 12). Your home task was to learn a short story about one of them.
A sightseeing tour around London. (Слайд 13)
Pupil 1: We start from Trafalgar Square. It is the main square of the capital of Great Britain. In the centre of this square there is Nelson’s Column.
Pupil 2: On your right you can see St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is the greatest work of England’s architect, Christopher Wren.
Pupil 3: Now we are coming to Piccadilly Circus. It is not a circus but it is a round square. There is a bronze fountain in the centre with a famous statue of Eros, the Greek god of love.
Pupil 4: Now we are making our way to Buckingham Palace. When the Queen is in London, she stays there. Look, they are changing the Guard. It happens every day at 11:30 a.m.
Pupil 5: In front of you there are the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The country's leaders speak in the Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament stand near the river Thames.
Pupil 6: Big Ben is the biggest clock bell in Britain. You can hear it every hour. It weights 13,720 kilograms.
Pupil 7: In a moment you will see Westminster Abbey. It is a symbol of England. The coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in Westminster Abbey. Some famous English people are buried here.
Pupil 8: Now we are crossing Tower Bridge, built in 1894. It is one of the famous bridges across the Thames. It opens and ships go up and down the River Thames.
You can see the Tower of London. The Tower is very old. It has a long and cruel history. The White Tower is the oldest part of the Tower of London. The Bloody Tower is near the river.
5. Физкультминутка.
Teacher: Now let's have a rest. Stand up. Listen to me and repeat after me.
Up and down, up and down, this is the way to London town.
Left and right, left and right, London city is famous and bright.
Teacher: And now let’s sing the song “London Bridge is falling down”. Do you remember it? (Приложение 1).
6. Активизация лексики по теме “Достопримечательности Москвы и Петербурга”.
Teacher: Any city has its own places of interest which are usually a part of its history and traditions. And now it’s time to talk about the places of interest in two main cities in Russia. What are the main cities in our country? (They are Moscow, the capital of Russia, and St. Petersburg, the historical center of it).
I am sure you have heard many names out of the list given on the blackboard. Look and try to arrange them in the right columns according to the cities they are located in. (На доске список достопримечательностей Москвы и Петербурга – слайд 14).
Teacher: What places of interest can you see in Moscow? (In Moscow I can see... In St. Petersburg I can see...).
Do you know all these sights well? You can see the pictures of some places in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Can you name them and say where they are located in. (The first picture is Red Square. I can see it if I visit Moscow. The second picture is Kazan’s Cathedral. I can see it if I visit St. Petersburg). Слайд 15-20.
7. Развитие навыков диалогической речи на основе прочитанного материала.
Teacher: As I know you would like to go to different cities. Now we shall make up the dialogues about Moscow or St. Petersburg and their places of interest. You can see the model of the dialogue about the capital of Great Britain (слайд 21):
- Would you like to visit London?
- Yes, I would. It’s one of the most famous and interesting cities in Europe.
- What places would you like to see there?
- I would like to visit the main square, art galleries and museums.
- What is the main square in the capital of Great Britain?
- It’s Trafalgar Square. It’s a beautiful place to visit.
Teacher: Use this dialogue as a model and make up your own one. These photos will help you. (слайд 22)
8. Рефлексия.
Teacher: I am sure all pupils of our group would like to visit London, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Let’s discuss what would you like to see if you were a tourist and visited these cities and why. Use the following model:
I have never been to London but I would like to visit it because I want to see Big Ben. It is the biggest clock bell in Britain. (слайд 23-24)
Teacher: Let’s play the game “Agree or Disagree”. Listen to my sentences, please. Repeat my statement if you agree with me and correct it if you disagree with me.
- Moscow is the capital of Great Britain. (I disagree with you. Moscow is the capital of Russia).
- London is one of the most famous and interesting cities in Europe. (I agree with you. London is one of the most famous and interesting cities in Europe).
- The Queen lives in Westminster Abbey when she is in London.
- The country’s leaders speak in the Houses of Parliament.
- Palace Square is the main square in Moscow.
- There are a lot of interesting places to visit in St. Petersburg.
- You don’t want to visit Great Britain.
Teacher: Our tour around the cities is going to the end. I believe that you have learned many interesting things and I do hope that in a while you will learn much more about the countries whose languages you study at school, but don’t forget your native place as it’s also very interesting and is worth learning.
