Text: Bank accounts.

«Hi! I'm Kim. I want you to know about banks and accounts. I'm with VTB Bank. I have a cheque account with a check book so I can write cheques (=printed forms from the bank). My salary is paid directly into my account. I also have a savings account where I save money and earn interest (=money the bank pays you). I can transfer money between these two accounts ‒ I can move money from one account into the other. I can go to the bank to do this, but it's easier to use VTB's internet banking service. The bank sends me a statement (=a printed list of payments from and to the account ) every month, showing me the balance (=how much money I have in the account). Sometimes people need to borrow money from the bank. This money is called a loan and they have to pay interest on the loan. Banks have higher interest rates for borrowers than for savers

Task 1. Give Russian equivalents to the following:

A cheque account, to transfer money, to move money from one account into the other, earn interest, to send a statement, to show the balance, interest rates, borrowers, to pay directly into account, savers, interest rates, borrow, interest on the loan .

Task 2. Mark these statements T (true) or F (false) according to the text:

  1. The bank sends a statement once a year.
  2. Interest rates for borrowers are lower than for savers.
  3. It's easier to transfer money using internet banking service.
  4. Kim has a cheque account without a check book.

Task 3. Mach:

Kim: Yes, I use it to take out or withdraw money from cash machines. I can use the money to pay cash for things in shops.

Lisa: And do you have a credit card Like Visa or American Express?

Kim: Yes, I do. It has a limit of Ј5.000 -that's the maximum amount I can spend-but I try to repay what I owe (= need to pay back) every month. I don't want to get into debt and owe a lot of money without being able to repay it.
