Подготовительный этап. К соревнованию подготовили презентацию на тему «Great Britain» в форме слайд-шоу, а также конкурсные задания лексического, грамматического и лингвострановедческого характера. Учащиеся подготовили доклады на темы: «Westminster Abbey «Big Ben». Презентация «Great Britain” представляется до начала конкурса.

Цели:

  • Практические: к концу урока учащиеся должны составлять творческие монологические высказывания по теме.
  • Общеобразовательные:
    • расширение общего кругозора;
    • расширение филологического кругозора;
    • расширение знаний о стране изучаемого языка.
  • Развивающие:
    • развитие языковой догадки;
    • развитие памяти, мышления, воображения.
  • Воспитательные:
    • воспитание внимания, умения слушать друг друга;
    • развитие умений работы в группе, команде.

The course of the competition

Teacher: You know that this week is very special, because it is known as a week of foreign cultures at school, that is why we decided to have a competition today between three teams: Great Britain, Russia and the USA (дети тянут листочки, на которых написаны названия команд). Each team has a captain, they are: Nastya, Victoriya, Ilya. Our competition will consist of three parts: during the first part we will see your knowledge concerning three countries, during the second part we will see your ability to use different words in the sentences and the third part is devoted to grammar knowledge.
For every task you will get the points and whose team gets more points that team will win the competition.
We have a jury. They will count the points and assess your knowledge. And now Natasha will present us Great Britain.

Teacher: While our jury check your answers and count the points, some of the pupils have prepared with reports. Mike has some information about Westminster Abbey.

Mike: Westminster Abbey is a symbol of England. It stands not far from the Houses of Parliament. The legend says that Westminster Abbey was founded by St. Peter (святой Петр) himself. We know that Westminster. Abbey was built by King Edward in 1065. The coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in Westminster Abbey. Some famous English people are also buried here.

Teacher: Well done, Mike. Thank you. Now Kirill is going to tell us a few words about Big Ben.

Kirill: The famous clock Big Ben stands near the Houses of Parliament. Tourists in London always want to see Big Ben. They want to see the clock in its tower and to hear the bells. Big Ben is really a bell. You hear it every hour. It is a big bell. It weighs 13,720 kilograms. It has a deep tone and you can hear it on the radio: “This is the BBC. The time is six o'clock.” And then you hear the deep boom of Big Ben six times.
