ХОД УРОКА
I. Организационный момент
1) Приветствие класса: Good morning. How are you today? I’m glad to
see you again.
2) Проверка отсутствующих в классе: Let me know, who is absent
today?
3) Дата: What date is it today?
4) Объявление темы урока: Today our theme is “I must learn English
to” and “Modal Verbs”.
II. Постановка учебной задачи
Today we have the following plan of work: we should revise modal verbs: can, could and may and study: must, have to and should. We’ll work with the presentation, do some grammar useful exercises and we should speak on our theme «Why must I learn English?» Hope, you’ll enjoy and have fun!
III. Контроль домашнего задания
Today some guests have come to our lesson. You are welcome! Let’s ask them why English is so popular.
– I am Mrs Brinks, a rich American businessman.
I think that English is so popular because it is the language of America.
The world has to understand America because it is one of the biggest and strongest
countries. Everybody wants to do business with America. First of all,
six out of ten richest people in the world are Americans.
Then, the whole world eats in American restaurants: McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
Also the whole world wears American jeans such as Levis [li vaiz].
Besides, Hollywood is the biggest film producer in the world. The most popular films in
the world are American.
The dollar is the most popular currency (валюта) in the world.
And he USA is the world leader in science and technology. As for me, my business is
connecting with computer technology. That’s why I am so successful.
– Let’s ask Mrs. Brinks some questions:
– What’s your favourite American film?
– What’s your favourite American restaurant?
– Thank you, Mrs Brinks. Our next guest is Mrs. Belova, a Russian translator.
– Hallow! I’m Mrs. Belova, a Russian translator. I think that English is so popular because it is very easy. Also English is an international language. And it is learnt by most Russian pupils at school.
– Let’s ask Mrs. Belova some questions:
– What language do the most Russian pupils study at school?
– Why is English an international language?
– Thank you very much. Our next guest is Mrs Bamridge, an English historian.
– I am Mrs Bamridge, an English historian.
I think that English is so popular because it has words from other languages. It is like
many European languages and that's why people can learn it easily.
In fact, a lot of English words are like German. The grammar is also very similar.
Compare:
Meine Freundin ist neun Jahre alt. (German) – My friend is nine years old.
(English) Wir gehen in die Schule. (German) – We go to school.
(English) Sie ist interessant. (German) – She is interesting.

Scandinavian words in English: anger (гнев), cake, call, egg, get, give,
kick, kill, score, scrub, seat, skill, skin, skirt, sky, take, they, them, their,
ugly, want, window, husband.
Latin words in English: street, kitchen, cup, cheese, wine, angel, wall, paper.
French words in English: country, court (суд),
crime(преступление), prison, religion, prince, princess; royal, adventure,
change, fruit, letter, literature, magic, male, female, mirror, question, special.
– And our last guest for today is Mrs. Swarup, an Indian student.
– I am Mrs. Swarup, an Indian student.
I think English is so popular because the United Kingdom used to have a big empire.
The British had colonies all over the world, and all the people in the colonies had to
speak English.
My country, India, is an example.
Some of the countries that used to be British colonies are: the USA, Canada, Australia,
New Zealand, India, large parts of Africa, the Caribbean, the Far East, the Middle East
and some islands in Europe.

– What countries used to be British colonies?
– What language do people of these countries speak?

IV. Повторение пройденного материала
– Now it’s time to revise the theme we’ve already studied, I mean: can,
could and may.
– What do you know about modal verbs?
– When do we use them?
– Can you name them? Give some examples.
– What is the difference between can and may. We use can for informal
communications and may is more formal.
For example:
- May I ask you a question (If you ask a teacher)
- Can I take this book (If you ask a friend)

Can (прош. время could)
Употребляется:
1) Для выражения физической или умственной
способности, возможности выполнить
действие, выраженное инфинитивом – могу,
умею.
Глагол can употребляется в настоящем
времени и может относиться к настоящему и
будущему; could используется в прошедшем
времени, а глагол to be able (to) может
употребляться во всех временах. Глагол can
употребляется намного чаще, а их некоторое
смысловое различие заключается в том, что глагол can
означает возможность совершения действия
вообще, обычно, постоянно; а глагол to be able (to)
означает возможность совершения конкретного,
единичного действия в конкретный момент.
Например: I can swim across this river (Я могу
переплыть эту реку.)
2) Глагол can (could) в вопросах, просьбах,
запрещениях и разрешениях.
В этих случаях могут употребляться can, could
и may. В официальном стиле
употребляется may, в вежливой форме could,
в обычном разговорном, повседневном стиле –
can.
Например: Can/May I come in? (Можно
войти? Разрешите войти? (с may – более
официально, напр., в кабинет директора)
May (прош. время might)
Употребляется:
1) Для выражения объективной возможности
совершить действие, выраженное инфинитивом – могу,
можно. В этом значении may
употребляется только в утвердительных
предложениях с неопределенным инфинитивом,
относясь к настоящему и будущему (а can
не имеет каких-либо ограничений).
Например: I may/(can) go there
today. (Я могу пойти туда
сегодня.)
2) Глагол may (might) в вопросах,
просьбах, запрещениях и разрешениях.
В этих случаях могут употребляться как may
так и can. Глагол may
стилистически более официален, а can чаще
употребляется в разговорной речи.
Например: He may come in. (Он может
войти).
Must
Выражает:
a) необходимость совершения действия в силу
личного убеждения, обусловленная
обстоятельствами, моральными принципами и т.п. – должен,
нужно, надо;
б) предположение, граничащее с уверенностью – должно
быть, вероятно.
Например: You mustn’t miss your lectures. (Ты не должен пропускать лекции.)
to have (to)
Выражает: необходимость совершения действия, вызванную обстоятельствами – должен, придется, вынужден. По смыслу близок модальному must (обязанность или необходимость с точки зрения говорящего).
Например: I have to get up the next morning at seven. (Завтра утром я должен встать в семь часов.)

1) Why is English so widespread nowadays?
Learning of foreign languages is becoming more and more popular. It goes without saying that English is the most popular foreign language now. Of cause it’s not easy, but if know English, you can get a better job. Besides, English is the language of business and computers; it’s also very useful when you travel abroad. To sum it up I think that knowledge of foreign language helps to make a person educated and well-rounded.
2) Can you speak English fluently?
No, I can’t but I’m trying. I suppose grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are all important for learning English language. To speak English fluently you should have a rich vocabulary, know grammar rules and pronounce word correctly. Only in this case a native speaker will enjoy communication with you. And also you should have all these skills to pass your exam successfully.
3) What can you do best of all: read, speak, listen, or write?
As for me I like all kinds of activities such us reading, listening, speaking and writing. But my favorite activity is reading because I prefer reading scientific magazines such us Science or Science Daily. I also can read a lot of books of foreign authors in original. I’m interested in Nucleonic. I would like to be a scientist, so I suppose knowledge in listening; speaking and writing are also useful for my future job.
4) How can you increase your level of English?
I try to increase my level of English. First of all, I do some exercises and learn some new words every day. On my mind practice in English every day is the best way to learn the language. Communication with native speakers is very useful too. The process of learning English is infinite same as learning native language. Even English use native language for 30-40 percents. It will always be higher level to achieve.
