T: Good morning. Do you need an example to follow? Will you speak about British famous people today?
P.P.: Yes, we can.
T. I would like to divide you into three groups. The first group will tell us about the famous waxworks museum, which has one of the largest collections of wax models in the world, the second group will prepare the dialogue about W. Shakespeare, the third group – the information about your favourite British musicians.
T: You know there are many famous people in Great Britain. Children and grown-ups know them well. They love and respect people who did a lot for their nation. Do you know about the famous British people?
T: Very well. Have you ever heard about Madame Tussaud’s waxworks?
P. I heard a little.
T. Tell us why m. Tussaud became famous and what can you see in her museum?
P. I know m. Tussaud was born in France two hundred years ago , but became famous in England because she made wax figures and opened a gallery. There are famous people from the past and the present. It was opened in 1835.
2 .T: Many thanks for your knowledge about it. Now imagine that m.Tussaud has asked you to open a new department in this gallery. What department would you like to open? Who would you like to put into it? Maybe these persons are in this gallery, maybe they are absent yet?
P1. I am sure Lord Nelson is a symbol of the nation.
P2: Would you like to follow him?
P3: I think you know very little about him.
P1: Admiral Nelson was born in 1758 and died in 1805. He was one of those men who served their country best during the great war with France.
P2: Did he really do his duty?
P1: Of course, his victory at Trafalgar made England mistress of the seas. England expects that every man will do his duty. Lord Nelson was killed in the battle of Trafalgar. His last words were « Thanks God I have done my duty! »
P3: What do you think what kind of person was he?
P1: I think he was brave, skilled and confident.
T: Thank you very much for all. I am sure you have got the best example to follow. Lord Nelson is dignified to be in our gallery of famous people.
P: Can I speak?
T: Of course.
P1: I think I put into this gallery all the members of Royal family – Queen – Elizabeth II.
P2: I put into this gallery the Princess of Wales. I like more Diana. She has died in Paris in 1998. There are a lot of fans of Diana. They copy her hair, style and her clothes.
Diana started new fashions. For all people she was the symbol of beauty and she had such a kind heart.
P1: There are a lot of colourful ceremonies involving the Royal family. I like the royal family and like to read about them. The popular newspapers write about them often.
P1: Diana was the wife of Prince Charles. Her sons were Prince William and Prince Henry. Her name was Lady Diana Spencer before she was married. Her title was the Princess of Wales.
P2: Queen Elizabeth is a symbol of countryё her history and traditions. I think is wonderful to observe traditions. The Queen also is a symbol of power but it’s possible to put the Queen in this gallery.
P1: I think Diana had got a sacrifice powerё principles and traditions of monarchy.
P2: The royal family is always friendly.
T: I think you are sure that monarchy means a lot for England. Remember we spoke yet about people`s opinion on the monarchy in British newspapers. Do you remember?
P: People were asked „If there were no monarchy who would you vote for as a President?” More than 80% chase the Queen. Prince Charles came secondё closely followed by Prince Philip. The Prime Minister of the day was fourth with 2 percent of the votes.
T: What do you think about it?
P: I am sure that monarchies have got a big power and influence on the people. But I prefer to speak about English culture. For example about Shakespeare.
T: What do you think Shakespeare take a principal place in English literature?
P: I don’t doubt it.
P. Dear spectators these are „The theatre` s meetings” and I am a leader… Will you speak about W. Shakespeare? People know he is a genial English writer of plays what else we can speak about him?
Now there are very interesting people. It’s professor of literature…ё a famous theatre’s director, a critic of literature…
They tell us about Shakespeare. My first question is to you. When did he live?
P.: W.S. was born about April 23 in 1564ё in the town of Stratford-on-Avon. His father John Shakespeare was a glover. In his childhood W.S. went to the Stratford Grammar School. In 1582 when he was eighteenё W.S. became allied to the theatre company. They built the famous
„Globe Theatre” W.S. became the principal writer of plays. W.S. lived in the time of English Renaissance.
P: You spoke about „ Globe Theatre”. Can you speak more else about it?
P: Well. The public theatres that W. S. wrote his plays were quite different from those of his plays were built of wood. The spectators stood. The scene was open to the sky. Rich men sat in the galleries. Performances always began in broad daylight and lasted for three hours. I want to speak all women parts were played by boys or young men.
P.: It’s very interesting. Can you tell us about his plays?
P.: Of course. There are historical drams such as „Henry VII” „Richard III” comedies such as „Much About Nothing”ё„Twelfth Night” great tragedies„ Hamlet”ё „Othello”ё „King Lear „Romeo and Juliet”
P.: I know „R and J” stands apart from his other tragediesё doesn’t it?
P: You are right. The tragedy„ R and J” stands apart from W.S. tragedies . It was written during the first period of W.S. creative work. The play is full of loveё youth and humanism. In spite of the fact the hero and heroine died.
The tragedy problems rised a powerful impression of our emotions and our intellect.
P: I think these problems still produce a powerful impression. I would like to invite two actors.
Scene 5, act 3. Romeo… Juliet… Please.
Jul. Will thou be gone? It is not yet neat day: It was the nightingale. Nightly she signs on yet pomegranates there: Believe me, love, it was the nightingale.
Rom. It was the lark, the herald of the morn, no nightingale: look love…
Night’s candles are burn it out and day stands on the mountain tops:
I must be gone and live or stay and die.
Jul. You right is not daylight I know it. It is meteor that the gun exhales…Therefore stay yet, thou need’s not to be gone?
Rom. Let me be put to death. I am content, so thou will have it so.
I’ll say you grey is not the morning’s eye. I have more care to stay than will to go. Come death and welcome! Juliet wills it so, how is it my soul. Let’s talk, it is nit day?
Jul:
It is, it is, be gone away!
It is the lark that sings so out of tune…
O! Now be gone; more light; and light it grows.
Rom. More light and light, more dark and dark out woes.
P1: Bravo. I’ll continue and ask you about W.S. sonnets.
P2: W.S. sonnets occupy a unique place in his literary legacy.
P1: Let listen to one of his sonnets. Now I invite a famous actress…
Then hate me when thou wilt; it ever, now;
Now, while the world is bent my deeds to cross,
Join with the spite of fortune, make me bow,
And do not drop in for on after-loss:
Ah, do not, when my heart hath scoped this sorrow,
Come in the rear word of a conquer’d woe;
Give not a windy night a rainy morrow,
To linger out a purposed overthrow.
If thou wilt leave me, do not leave me last,
When other petty griets have done their spite,
But in the onset come; so shall I taste
At first the very worst of fortune’s might,
And other strains of woe, wich now seem woe,
Compared with loss of thee will not seem so.
P1: Thank you very much for you talents.
We can do the conclusion W.S. is a real genial writer. And his creature still produce powerful impression to spectators. Good by dear friends. Please, read W.S.
T.: Thanks a lot for your play. I think W.S. must take a noble place in our gallery.
P1.: We prefer to speak about modern music. First speak about a little about rock-and-roll. These men are well-know in Britain and over the world. I speak about the «Beatles».
P2.: The «Beatles» began in Liverpool. The group members signed different songs and some people listened to music and people liked this music. This group was formed by John Lennon.
P1.: Who was in the «Beatles» and why they had success?
Р2.:There were P. Mc. Cartney, John Lennon, G. Harrison, R. Starr. They had success, because P. Mc.Cartney, John Lennon, G. Harrison, R. Starr liked music and worked together.
T. The«Beatles» began to create after 1965?
P1.: The «Beatles» had got their first hit record in 1962. Their first success was «Please-please me…». And after that they gave concert in Germany and America where they had even great success.
Р2.: When the «Beatles» had their first hit?
P1.: After 1965 the «Beatles» their successful records and interesting films.
Р2.: What do you think why the «Beatles» split up?
P1.: In 1970, the group split up because John Lennon and P. Mc. Cartney thought that they-first in their group and didn`t think that G. Harrison and R. Starr were very good singers.
Р2.: Who were the «Beatles» for our grandparents and now for our generation.
P1.: It`s good to be confident people and bad to be a man who likes money.
Р2.: I need an example to follow because I think that the «Beatles» are confident, talented, brave.
P1.: For us the «Beatles» is classic of music (rock-and-roll) and for our grandparents too.
Our generation like songs of the «Beatles».
And I respect the «Beatles» because these men were very good actors and singers. Our world like the «Beatles» very much.
T: Thank you . Let me do the conclusion. I think you know a lot about your examples to follow. What do you think if it`s right to have an example to follow in modern time ?
P.P.: Yes, of course. We would like to be better and be useful to people.
T: I agree with you. I am glad you worked very well.
