“Is it easy to be young? ..... never ask teenagers this question. They don’t remember themselves, their teenage years. Were they difficult for them? The answer ….. either positive or negative. But who can say for sure if your parents didn’t have problems. Parents never talk about it. I bet (держать пари) they tried all sorts of options ..… themselves with a certain subculture. I don’t find it ..… because after all they have become humble. They try to teach you to be the same. They ….. you study well, behave properly and ..… bad habits. Do you blame them for this? As time goes on your parents become home-sitters and coach potatoes. They never ride a bike with a speed of sound, wear extravagant outfit or hang about the mall. All they do is teach you about life. So is it easy to be young? Of course not! It’s not easy ..… with the time.”
- Read the text aloud, please, and say if you agree or disagree with this opinion.
(Учащиеся высказывают свое согласие и несогласие с мнением)
5. Аудирование. “Who can help teenagers to cope with their problems?”
(учащиеся слушают интервью и отвечают на вопросы учителя)
-Are the teenage problems difficult to solve? Who can help the teens to solve them? Different experts investigate social problems and try to help young people to cope with their problems. Melanie Stewart is one of them. Listen to an interview with Melanie Stewart and answer the questions:
- What does Melanie Stewart do?
- What is Melanie Stewart by profession?
- Which teenage problems is she speaking about in her interview?
“- Hello, everyone. With me in studio today I have a guest. Melanie Stewart is a social worker and deals with young people who have drinking problems. Mass media reports show that a lot of teenagers suffer drinking problems. Is this really true?
- I’m afraid so. The recent surveys really show that alcohol cases are increasing.
- How awful. But there must be some reasons for that.
- Well, teenagers experiment with alcohol for a variety of reasons. First, a lot of them associate drinking with adulthood. Curiosity can be one of the motives for teens’ first try of alcohol. And most teens told me that nobody had ever warned them of the dangers of regular drinking. Actually, parents don’t pay much attention to what their children do. And the most powerful influence on young people are their mates. A lot of teens said that they had had their first glass of alcohol at a friend’s party.
- Do you see any way to help them?
- A lot of alcoholics are sent to special hospitals for the treatment. But sometimes - without any success. The teenager’s attitude is very important too. First, I think there should be much more information about the danger of alcohol provided by mass media, schools. Teachers and parents can help a lot. Young people must have the feeling that somebody cares for them.
-Thank you for coming. And I would like to say to all teenagers.
Remember we care for you.” (слайд 3)
(Учащиеся отвечают на выше поставленные вопросы)
6. Составление собственного мнения на основе предложенного.
(Учащиеся знакомятся с мнением подростка и составляют свое мнение, отвечая на вопрос: Is it easy to be young?)
“In my opinion, young people have even more problems than adults. Most of them want to enjoy life, be independent and be taken seriously. Teenagers often want to express their individuality or earn money but they don’t know how to do it. Some of them start to rebel against the society and reject everything. It causes violence and cruelty. There are many young people who have drug addiction and drinking problems. Personally, I think it happens because they get depressed and upset when they can’t solve their problems. Adults can help teenagers to overcome difficulties if they pay more attention to their problems. At the same time, teenagers have to decide what they want to have in future. Being young, you should think of what you can do to change the world to the best.”
-I’d like to hear your own points of view upon the problem. For this you may use the words and expressions of the card.
(Учащимся раздаются карточки речевых опор для организации практики говорения)
