Aims:

1) to develop pupils’ monologue and dialogue speech habits (discussing the text “Tigger comes to the forest and has breakfast” and discussing the topic “It takes many kinds to make the world”);

2) to form pupils’ lexico-grammatical habits;

3) to practice pupils’ listening comprehension habits (text “ Christopher’s toys”);

4) to aid the development of pupils’ analytical, critical, evocative thinking (problematical situations, creative tasks);

5) to encourage the pupils to respect, to love, to be responsible to people around;

6) to develop pupils’ creative abilities in learning English.

The lesson is provided with a presentation. (Приложение)

Оборудование: компьютер, интерактивная доска, проектор, реквизит для инсценирования полилога.

I. The beginning of the lesson

1. Who is on duty today?

2. What is the weather like today?

T: Today we have the closing lesson on the topic “It takes many kinds to make the world” the lesson will consist of two parts: discussing the text “Tigger comes to the forest and has breakfast” and discussing the topic “It takes many kinds to make the world”. (Слайд 1)

II. Speaking about Alan Alexander Milne.

T: Practically every child in this country knows Winnie-the Pooh and other wonderful characters from A. A. Milne’s book “Winnie-the Pooh” but not many people know anything about Milne himself. Imagine that you were told to make a story about the author of “Winnie-the Pooh”.

Look at the screen and give the English equivalents for the Russian ones. (Слайд 2)

III. Listening-comprehension.

T: I have a text for you. The text is about the famous Christopher’s toys. Can you name them? Look at the screen and try to pronounce their names correctly. (Cлайд 4)

Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo.

T: Make sure that you know these words and word-combinations. (Ex.51/a, p.114)

To hum - мурлыкать, бурчать под нос

“tight place”- затруднительные обстоятельства

Squeaky - визгливый, плаксивый

Walnut - ореховое дерево

Listen to the text and choose the right way to complete the sentences. (Ex.51/b, p.114)

Listen to the text once again and say how much you can remember about the history of Christopher’s toys.

IV. Discussing the text “Tigger comes to the forest and has breakfast”. (Cлайд 5)

T: Before discussing the text “Tigger comes to the forest and has breakfast” try to do some exercises. Look at the screen and match the phrases in English with their Russian equivalents. (Ex.54/a, p.115)

T: Use the suitable phrases from task A in the dialogues.

2. — Bob is such a shy boy, isn't he?

— Not at all . ... he only seems to be quiet. In fact he is never afraid of anything.

3. — Shall I walk to the station or shall I take a bus?

— It doesn't matter. You won't be late ....

4. — Do you often visit your Granny?

— No, but I call her ... .

T: Try and explain how you understand these:

  1. a stripy friend;
  2. the most thistly-looking patch of thistles that ever was.

T: Who said it?

1. "When is he going?"

2. "Don't mention it, Pooh."

3…. I didn't mean that I didn't want to see you ... ."

Explain why. (Cлайд 6)

1) Pooh began to apologize saying,” Oh, Eeyore, I didn`t mean that I didn`t want to see you.”

2) Eeyore kept the patch of thistles for his birthday.

3) Tigger looked anxiously at Pooh when he saw thistles.

4) Tigger began running round in circles with his tongue hanging out.

5) Eeyore said:” … we all have our little ways,” when he asked Tigger to stop running about.

6) Tigger rushed out the house where Eeyore lived.

7) Pooh and Piglet didn`t speak on their way to Kanga.

8) the author mentioned that Pooh began feeling 11 o`clockish.

V. Role-playing.

T: Your homework was to act out the polylogue from the text. Are you ready? Let’s begin. (Cлайд 7)

VI. Discussing the topic “It takes many kinds to make the world”. (Cлайд 8)

T: What does the line “It takes many kinds to make the world” mean?

T: Now try to express your agreement or disagreement with the statements using the conversational formulas. (Ex.62, p.121). (Cлайд 9)

a) People are both-different and alike.

b) Living in the same place, reading the same books make us alike.

c) Good-looking people are always kind and friendly.

d) Our personalities, tastes, likes and dislikes change with years.

e) Personality mostly comes from the inside not the outside.

T: Look at the portraits of famous people and describe their appearances with the help of words and word-combinations on pages 119-120. (Cлайд 10)

T: Maybe there are people you admire. Who are they? Why do you admire them?

VII. Reflection of the lesson.

T: As you have become aware all people of the world are different in many ways. Unfortunately, we are pressed for time to discuss each opinion. But we should make a conclusion of our lesson. Try to continue the idea: We all live on the planet Earth. We are different but… (Cлайд 11)
