– How are you? How are you getting on? You look posh today! Etc.

2. Teacher: Today we are going to continue speaking about Russia. We’ll learn how to describe the crafts and industries our country famous for.

3. We are going to make short dialogues on everyday life.

– Then have a look at this one. It gives a lot of information which tourists are interested in: accommodation, restaurants and sightseeings, time tables and what not.
– I see, it’s a good one. I’ll take it. How much is it?
– Only 100 hundred rubles.
– Thanks a lot.

1. Now, children, have a look at the screen. You’ll see some slides on Russia, your task is to comment them.

Slide 1. Map of Russia

– It’s one of the biggest countries in the world. It’s located in Europe and Asia.
– It boarders on thirteen countries.
– Russia is washed by twelve seas and three oceans.

Slide 2.  Symbols

– Russian flag consists of three stripes. They are white, red  and blue
– The coat of arms is a two-headed eagle.

Slide 3. Population

– Russia is home to nearly 150 million people from different groups.
A hundred ethnic groups live in Russia.  85% of the population is Russian. 5.5 million Tatars, 4.4 million Ukrainians. They all speak Russian. But every ethnic group has its own language and culture.

Teacher:  What languages are spoken on the territory of Tatarstan?

Pupil: There are two state languages. They are Russian and Tatar.

2. Teacher:   Yes, you are right!  I hope you remember how Gabdulla Tukai sang the beauty of his native language in his famous poem My native language ( И туган тел). Let’s sing it in the language the great poet sang with Alsou and Rinat Ibragimov

Slide 4. Climate.

Russia is a very large country. It stretches across 11 time zones. And includes many types of climate. It has a tundra climate in the north and subtropical on the Black sea.

Slide 5 Famous people.

On this slide you see the people we are proud of. What do you know about them?

PP:

Peter the First did a lot to reorganize the country. He modernized the Army and founded Russia’s feet. He built a new capital. St. Petersburg, on the Neva River.
Lomonosov  is a great Russian who he was a famous scientist and writer. He wrote a history of Russia and a Russian grammar.  He founded State University in 1755.
Valentina Tereshkova became the first female astronaut in the world. She orbited the Earth 48 times.

Russia has got a lot of famous people. Now we’ll see how well you know them. Among them you can find poets and writers, singers and composers. (На бумаге, затем проверка на доске).

Your task is to make sentences from the given words.

Urmanche Baki created the spirit of his nationality in his poems

4. Now computers are at your disposal. You are going to do a test “DO YOU KNOW YOUR COUNTRY?”

Teacher: On the screen you can see a lot of things. What do you think these things mean?

1.. Teacher: You are right. Let’s find the correct name for each of these things from the box. Match the pictures with their names (do it in groups)
The quickest group will do it on the board.

2. Practise saying the words. Make sure Pp understand the meaning of new words.

Teacher: Nearly every place has something special that is produced there and people are proud of. Some places have become famous thanks to these industries or products.

Teacher: You are you going to read about some places which have become extremely popular thanks to the things that are produced there.

1. Read the texts and find the answers to the questions and inform the class.

No.1 Our group read the text about Gzel. We’ve found out that 

  • Gzhel is famous for its porcelain
  • People started making pottery in the 14th century.
  • Gzhel porcelain is made of clay
  • It’s used to make vases, tea sets and they are extremely popular

No.2  We’ve read about Samara and learnt that

  • It is famous for its chocolate.
  • The chocolate industry started in 1970
  • The Rossia chocolate Factory produces 30.000 tonnes of chocolate every year.
  • The chocolate is made from the best Brazilian beans.
  • It’s used to make sweets and chocolate bars.  It’s really delicious.

No.3 We‘ve read the text about Vologda

  • It’s famous for its lace
  • People started lace making in the 18th century
  • It’s made of linen thread.
  • It’s used for decorating curtains, bedcovers and clothes. 

IV. Class.  Developing analytical skills

1. Teacher:  Look through the texts and read out the sentences what materials are used to make the things.
Rossia chocolate is made from Brazilian cocoa beans.
Gzhel porcelain is made from clay.
Blue vases, tea and coffee sets are made of Gzhel porcelain

2.  Teacher:  Pay attention to different prepositions in the structure :   “is made…” and try to explain the difference.

CHACK-CHACK (an ad)

Have ever tried chack-chack? Try  famous Tatar chack-chack made of flour and eggs with your hot tea! It’s finger-licking good!  It’s richly decorated with candles of different colours.  It’s presented to the most important guests to welcome their coming!

TYUBETEIKA

It’s an item of menswear of Tatars. It’s a cap. It was made of different cloth. But the most beautiful one is made of velvet which is decorated with golden embroidery.  How handsome a man looks in a tyubeteika!

THE SUYUMBEKE TOWER is а symbol of Kazan city!  It's situated in the Kazan Kremlin.  The tower is 58 metres high and has 7 levels. There are many legends about Suembeki Tower. One of legends say – when the city was being taken by the Russian army, the last Kazan Princess threw herself from this tower. When Suembeki tower was built nobody knows for sure. Some scientists’ say it was built by the Russians in XVII century, others say it was built in pre-Mongolian time. According to last data it's a Russian watchtower.
