Try to answer my questions:
- What language is easily understood in any part of the world? (English)
- What language is often spoken at the international conferences and seminars? (English)
- What language is often used in the Internet communication? (English)
T. Of course, you are right. It is English. English is an international language. Today we’ll speak about English and the English-speaking countries.
3. Лексическая зарядка.
But at first let’s review our words. Find pairs that have similar meanings:

Big – Large
Little – Small
Country – State
A capital – A main city
People – Population
Powerful – Strong
Well-known – Famous
4. Активизация лексических навыков.
Look at the map (p.38 ex.19) and answer the questions:
- What countries are marked on the map?
- What main languages do people speak in those countries?
- What capitals of these countries do you know?
Listen to the tape and check your answers. (Приложение 2)
5. Чтение текста с полным пониманием. (Работа в группах)
Now you’ll read about five English-speaking countries. Ex. 31 p.40
There are five texts for each group.

- Name of the country (full and short name)
- Capital
- Official language or languages
- Traditions
- Population
- Interesting facts
