Сценарий игрового шоу «Mystery tour»
(Звучит музыка из мюзикла «Фантом оперы». Выходят два ведущих.)
Narrator 1: Hello, dear guests! Welcome to our game show “Mystery Tour”!
Narrator 2: Mystery tour is a pleasure trip in which the travelers do not know where they will be taken. If you are fond of something new and unknown, our show will be the right thing for you. So today we suggest you should make a mystery tour. And in the end, you’ll have to discover a secret.
Narrator 1: Well, are you ready to take part in our game? Then we are going to explain the rules. We have thought of a famous person, but we won’t tell you the person’s name. So you’ll have to undertake a so-called investigation and at the end of our game find out who this person is. During the game show we’ll tell you some information and ask some questions. We understand you can’t know all the answers. So you should not only use your knowledge but give free rein to your imagination.
Narrator 2: There must be three participants in our game. They’ll have to answer some questions that refer to the life of the person we’ve thought of. For each correct answer, they’ll get a point. In the end, the participant who scores the most points, will have the right to answer the final question first and become the winner of our game.
Narrator 1: Well, dear guests, who wants to take part in the game? Our spectators will be divided into three groups, so each of you will have a team of support. They may help you during the game: if you can’t answer the question, your team of support may answer it instead of you. Well, dear guests, take your time and think over who will participate in our show.

Narrator 2: Our hero was born the third of ten siblings on the 22nd of May 1859. He was born in the capital of the country that is known for its beautiful nature and many old traditions. One of them is a Hogmanay tradition that includes singing a song called AULD LANG SYNE at midnight on the 31st of December. People hold their hands standing in a large circle and sing the song.

Narrator 1: Our hero was born in a prosperous Irish-Catholic family, who had a prominent position in the world of art. His mother had a passion for books and was a master storyteller. She evoked our hero’s interest in literature. He read a lot of various books in his childhood. But he was particularly fond of adventure stories.
However, our hero didn’t choose literature as his future profession. He decided to follow a medical career, so he entered Edinburgh University in 1876.
A couple of years into his studies, our hero decided to try his pen at writing short stories. His first work was greatly influenced by an American writer known for his strange, frightening stories about death and evil powers such as “The Fall of the House of Usher”. Unfortunately, not many people know that he was also an author of wonderful poems.

Narrator 2: Our hero qualified as a doctor in 1885. After graduation, he practised medicine as an eye specialist in Hampshire. The practice was not very successful. While waiting for patients, our hero again began writing books. Now he tried to write not only short stories but novels as well. His first novel “The Firm of Girdlestone” was published in 1890. The book was written under the influence of a famous English writer of the 19th century whose literary talent our hero greatly appreciated.
Now, we are going to show you a scene from his novel.

Mr. Tupman: Then what can you be; or to what can I compare you? Where was the woman ever seen who resembled you? Where else could I hope to find so rare a combination of excellence and beauty?

There lives at least one being who can never change – one being who would be ready to devote his whole existence to your happiness – who lives but in your eyes – who breathes but in your smiles – who bears the heavy burden of life itself only for you!!!

Narrator: Mr. Tupman looked round. There was the fat boy with his large circular eyes staring into the arbour. Mr. Tupman gazed on the fat boy, and the fat boy stared at him. The longer Mr. Tupman looked at the boy, the more convinced he became that he either did not know or did not understand anything that had been going forward.
Mr. Tupman: What do you want here, sir?
Fat boy: Supper’s ready. sir.
Mr. Tupman: Have you just come here?
Fat boy: Just.
Narrator: Mr. Tupman looked at him very hard again, but there was not a wink in his eye or a curve in his face.
Mr. Tupman: He knows nothing of what has happened.
Ms. Wardle: Nothing.

Now listen to the correct answer: you’ve just seen an episode from the novel “The Pickwick Papers” by Charles Dickens known as the most famous English novelist of the 19th century. His books include David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, The Pickwick Papers and many others.
Narrator 1: Surprisingly, in the 1880s, our hero was better known as a writer in the United States of America than in England. In August of 1889, a popular American publisher came to London to organize a British edition of his magazine. He invited our hero for dinner. He also asked another writer, who by then was already quite well-known for his poems, stories, plays and wonderful fairy tales. Our hero admired the writer’s elegant look and wit. “It was indeed a golden evening for me”, he wrote of this meeting. The publisher and the popular writer offered our hero to write a short novel which later played a very important role in his literary career. It was the novel “The Sign of Four”.

Narrator 2: In 1891, our hero decided to give up his medical career and become a full time writer. He was a prolific author whose works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays and romances , poetry, and non-fiction.
However, most readers only associate our hero with his book character. It is considered that the model for this character was Dr. Joseph Bell who taught medicine at Edinburgh University. He was a master at observation, logic, deduction, and diagnosis. All these qualities were later to be found in the book character. He was featured in a total 56 short stories and four novels. However, our hero thought that the character took his mind off more serious works, so he decided to “kill” the character in one of his stories. Public outcry, however, led our hero to bring the character back.
