Dear friends from Russia.
I’m writing to you from snowy Finland. And I want to tell you about
my winter holidays. I hope you would like to know about it!
Every year I go to Finland with my family for my winter holidays.
It’s December now and the weather is cold here. The white
snowflakes are falling on the ground and the snow is sparkling
under the lanterns light.
Every day we help people to decorate their city with tinsel, lights
and bright lanterns for New Year festival. Also I like shopping
with my mum for New Year presents for our friends.
Last three days of my holidays I usually spend on New Year
festival. We sing and dance in a circle, go toboggan, make a
snowman and play snowballs. But the most interesting part of the
festival is a Parade. When Santa comes on 12-reindeers open-sleigh
and brings presents for everyone.
Also I’d like to visit Lapland where Santa lives.
I’d like to know about your winter holidays. Where do you usually
go? And what do you usually do? Write me back as soon as you
can!

T: Now look at the letter again (в раздаточном материале)
and tell me, please, what time the letter refers to? (данный вопрос
может быть задан по-русски).
Cl: To the present time (к настоящему).
T: Right. Look through the letter and tell me what tenses
are used in this letter?
Cl: Present Simple and Present continuous. (Click.)

T: Yes, you’re absolutely right. Who can tell me when (in
what cases) we use the Present Simple?
P1: When we speak about the repeated action.
T: Yes. We use the Present Simple when we speak about the
action which repeats periodically. And how do we build the positive
sentences in the Present Simple? (Click.)
P2: На
первое место мы ставим подлежащие, далее глагол в первой форме.
Если подлежащие стоит в третьем лице, то к глаголу добавляем
окончание -(e)s. (Click.)
T: Great! Let’s look at
the example (на экране): “I do my homework every day. “She eats
vegetables every morning.” Tell me what words help us to understand
that it is the Present Simple?
Cl: Every day, every morning.
T: What other words do you know?
Cl: Yesterday, every month, every year, sometimes, usually,
always, often and never.
T: Excellent! Is it clear for everyone that I’ve said about
the Present Simple?
Cl: Yes.

T: Ребята, вы помните в каком случае мы прибавляем к
глаголу окончание -es?
P1: Мы добавляем окончание -s когда глагол
заканчивается на -sh, -ch. (Click.)
T: Right. Look at the
examples in the screen: “teach – teaches, push – pushes”. Ребята, а
если слово заканчивается на букву -y какое мы добавляем
окончание?
P2: Мы меняем букву -y на букву -i
и добавляем окончание -es. (Click.)
T: Brilliant. Look at the
examples in the screen: “study – studies, fly – flies” Is it clear
for everyone?
Cl: Yes.
T: Ok. Во всех остальных случаях мы добавляем просто
окончание –s. (Click.)
Look at the examples in the screen: “put – puts, decorate –
decorates, hang – hangs”. Обратите внимание на слово “decorate”:
когда слово заканчивается на букву “e” мы также просто
добавляем окончание “s”. Is it clear?

T: Now let’s revise the Present Continuous. Who can tell
me when (in what cases) we use the Present Continuous?
P3: Когда мы говорим о действии, которое
происходит в данный момент.
T: Yes. We use the Present Continuous when we speak about
the action which is happening at the moment of speaking. The other
case when we use Present Continuous when we describe the atmosphere
around you (background). For example: “The snowflakes are falling
and the strong wind is blowing.” Is it clear for everyone?
Cl: Yes.
T: And how do we build the positive sentences in the Present
Continuous? (Click.)
P1: На первое место мы ставим подлежащие, далее
форму глагола to be и глагол с окончанием -ing
T:
What forms of the verb to be do you know?
Cl: Am, is, are.
T: When do we use am (with what pronoun)?
P2: I am.
T: Right. When do we use is (with what pronouns)?
P3: He, she, it is.
T: Well. When do we use are (with what pronouns)?
P4: We, you, they are.

Let’s look at the example (на экране): “I am swimming now. He is
jumping now. We are walking now. The sun is shining. The birds

singing.” Tell me what words help us to understand that it is the
Present Continuous?

Present Continuous?
Cl: Yes.

предложения всем классом, остальное дать на сам.работу и после
проверить). You will read the sentences and you need to choose the
correct verb (in PS or PC). Also you have to explain why you think
it is right. Is it clear?

P1: I go to the beach with my parents
every morning. Потому что с местоимением “I” мы не добавляем к
глаголу окончание -es (click to

P2: We are playing
volleyball now. Потому что в предложении есть слово “now” – сейчас

P3: My father listens to the different
stories every evening. Потому что в предложении есть выражение
“every evening” – каждый вечер (click to

P4: My friends and I go from house to
house and sing carols every Christmas. Потому что в предложении

garden sometimes. Потому что в предложении есть слово “sometimes” –

of these two expressions? For example: “I like
shopping with my mum” and “I’d like to visit
