Today we shall have a very interesting and unusual lesson. I think everybody will enjoy it.
It will be an excursion to the English - speaking countries.
It will be a business trip to the English - speaking world.
The purpose of our lesson is to generalize your knowledge about the English
speaking countries, we shall train our language skills and try to improve your
abilities to read , speak, listen and understand English speech.
We have a lot of work to do, because at our lesson we shall do a lot of
things:
- we' 11 check up your homework, your dialogues
- we' 11 listen to some texts on the tape-recorder
- we' 11 watch your computer presentations about the countries
- we' 11 read and translate the English words, phrases and texts
- we' 11 do some exercises and tests
- and at the end of the lesson we' 11 sing an English song. So let's begin our trip!

As usual, we must train our tongues a little.
l)Look at the screen, listen , repeat and read after me the words. They will help us at the lesson.

Are they situated near or far from each other?
Then why do people speak English in these countries?
Yes, they all were former British colonies, and the British brought their language with them.
Now they all belong to the British Commonwealth of Nations.
III этап. Введение в ситуацию урока. Чтение и написание делового письма.
Now look at the screen. We have received an e-mail letter. Let's read it. What country is the letter from ? Who wrote the letter? Where shall we go? What cities shall we visit?
So, let" s write the answer on the letter. Г ve prepared an answer for you, but some important things are missing. Your task is to complete the letter. What must we write in the left top corner of the letter on the first line? On the second line? On the third line? On the forth line?
What must we write on the right side of the letter? How must we address the letter?
Complete the text of the letter. Here are some 5 phrases. Think for 1 minute. (Приложение 2).
I am sure you have understood that we are invited to visit some exhibitions, which will take place in different countries at the same time.
What can you say about the cities, which we must visit? Where are they situated?
Yes, they are situated in different English- speaking countries. They are: the UK, the USA, Canada , Australia and New Zealand. And we shall visit them today.
At first we must decide how shall we get to the destination. Аудирование текста.
Now you will listen to the tape recorder. Four speakers tell about their favorite ways of Traveling (by car, by bus, by plane and by bike). Your task is to guess what are they speaking about. Listen very attentively. (Приложение 3)
Are you ready to give your answers?
The first speaker tells about traveling by bus, the second - by plane ,the third - by bike.
Now let" s choose transport for our trip.
Of course, we go by plane, because we are going to visit not only different countries, but even different continents.
IV этап. Проверка домашнего задания.
Now I want to see if you are ready for the trip, if you can communicate with English speaking people at the booking- office or at the airport. I am going to listen to your dialogues. (Students are telling their homework dialogues).
V этап. Повторение ранее изученного материала.
I see you are ready for the trip. But before we start I want to know if you can read the signboards in the streets of the cities? Look at the screen and match the English and the Russian signs. Read them aloud.
Г m going to turn on the tape-recorder and you' 11 listen to the anthem of one of the English - speaking countries. Guess what country does it belong to. (Students are listening to the tape).
I think you can tell me the name of the country. Yes. It is the Great Britain or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as we officially call it.
Some of you have prepared a computer presentation about this country, let' s watch it.
(Students show their project on the computer).
The next task for you is to listen to the dialogue and put all the phrases on your papers in the logical order. Here is the mixed dialogue. (Приложение 4). Now read the correct variant.
Can you recite it? (Two students are telling the dialogue) What country are the people speaking about? What is the capital of this country? Do you know the main sights of London? Look at the screen and say what do you know about them?
Now, you will work in pairs to check your knowledge of London" s sights. One of you will ask, the other will answer them. And there are the correct answers in your papers, you can control your partner's answers. (Приложение 5).
You will watch a short film about one of the main cities of the world and your task is to guess what city is it and in what country it is situated. (Students watch a short film on TV).
Have you recognized the city? Г m sure you have. It is New York. And it is situated in the United States of America.
Let's watch a computer presentation about this country.
You know there is difference between the British and the American English. Look at the screen and say how do the British or the American people call these things.
Say what do the American people do.
- The British live in flats, but the Americans....
- The British look at their time-table, but the Americans...
- The British take a taxi, but the Americans...
- The British call the rainy season autumn, but the Americans...
- When travelling the British take the luggage, but the Americans...
- The British buy the tickets at the booking - office, but the Americans...
- The British work in companies, but the Americans...
- In the morning the British receive post, but the Americans...
- When the British go to work by underground, but the Americans...
- Sometimes the British travel by railway, but the Americans...
Look at the screen again and say the flag of what country can you see on it?
Of course, you recognized the flag of Canada. It is white and red with a red maple leaf in its centre.
Now let's watch another presentation about Canada. (Students show their project on the computer).
In your files you have the texts about Canada. It is divided into 5 parts and your task is to give titles to them. Now let's read the text.
(Students read the text one by one). Tell me what is the first part of the text about? (The second, the third, the forth, the fifth). Very good!
You managed to do the first task, but there is the second on your sheets of paper. Say if the statements are true, false or not mentioned in the text.

Look at the screen again. You see a coat of arms of one of the English speaking countries. Guess what country is it.
You are quite right. This coat of arms belongs to Australia and you can see two symbols of this country: the Kangaroo and the Emu. So, let's watch the next project about Australia. ( Students show their project on the computer).
In your files you have texts about Australia. One group has them on the yellow sheets of paper, the other on the pink ones. But some information is missing in the texts. Your task is to fill in the gaps in your texts asking each other questions.
(Students ask each other questions). (Приложение 7).
Let's look at the screen again and do some tests. (Students answer the questions on the screen).
There is only one English speaking country left, that we didn't speak about. And we shall see national symbol on the screen. What country is it? Of course, you know. It is New Zealand, which is situated not far from Australia. So let's watch the presentation about it. (Students show their project on the computer).
In your files you have the texts about New Zealand. I give you 1 minute to look it through and then I shall ask you some questions.
Now look at the screen again, there is one more test for you. You are to complete the sentences. (Приложение 8).
So what interesting facts about New Zealand have you learnt?
(Students name the facts).
VI этап. Закрепление изученного материала.
We have spoken a lot about the English speaking countries, and now it is time to generalize our knowledge of them.
I have 5 envelopes for you, there the maps of the countries, whose language we study. But there is something wrong with them, they al are broken to pieces. You task is to collect them and say whose map this is.
(Students get the envelopes with the maps and collect them.)
Here are the examples of the maps, look at them and compare with your results.
Now we' 11 have a short quiz.
I will read sentences to you and you must guess what country Г m speaking about. (Приложение 9).
VII этап. Обобщение и систематизация знаний.
Now let's look at the screen again and do the last test at our lesson, but not in our life, of course.
Here you can see the most important items, which we mentioned today at the lesson. You the same tests in your files. I give you some minutes to think it over, and then you will give me your results. (Приложение 10).
If you look at your tests, you' 11 see that there is the most important information of the countries, using it you can a short summary about them. So speak about the UK, then about the USA and so on. (Students make short summaries).
People say that proverbs is the wisdom of the people. Г11 give you parts of the proverbs with the beginning or the end of them and you are to find your pair.
(Students ask each other and complete the proverbs.)
Soon the British people will celebrate their main holiday. Do you know what holiday it is? Yes, if s Christmas. Let's see how do the British celebrate this holiday. Look at the TV.

Our lesson comes to an end, and it's high time to sum it up. Tell me now what have we done at the lesson? (Students speak about the activities performed at the lesson). Why do we study the English language?
Because it is the language of millions of people and all over the world they use it as a native language or study it.
Because English an international language, it is the language of politics, business, science and tourism. And it is very important to speak English for young people of all specialties, especially managers. I hope that the knowledge of English and the English speaking countries will be helpful in your future work. For your work at the lesson I give you the following marks...
You homework will be to make a report or to write a composition about the economics of one of the 5 countries.
