Our topic today is "A Parliamentory Democracy in Great Britain . How does it work?"
Of course, the idea of democracy plays a great role in politics.
-What do you think "democracy" means?
Pupils read the following sentences and choose the necessary ones.
People do what they want.
People rule the country.
People do what they want within the framework of law.
People elect their representatives to rule the country.
People elect the head of state directly.
People say what they think.
People can live in any place they want.
The head of state guarantees the rights of citizens.
All people and authorities follow the constitution.
Pupils chooses the necessary sentences and express their opinions.

Teacher: Whether we like it or not but politics is part of our lives. It is everywhere : in newspapers, on the radio and on T V. When you listen to a politician who speaks English you can understand some words without translation. These words are international.

4. Teacher: The UK is a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy.
Read the following scheme ex. 3 (2),p. 42 and then fill the table.

- What functions do the representatives of power perform?
Use the scheme on p. 42 to find the correct statements.
6. Teacher: It is time to check up your grammar and of course add some new facts about political system of Great Britain. We shall speak about a modal verb "can".
We use "can" to say that someone has the ability to do something.
E. G. The House of Commons can make laws and discuss political problems.
Ask each other questions using modal verb "can".
Who can sign the bill?
Who can rule the country?
Who can control the House of Commons?
Who can have the power to delay bills for one year?
Who can coordinate the work of the government departments?
